We stayed at the VE in Barcelona for five nights in March 2009. The location is excellent (two blocks from a metro station) and, being away from the main tourist areas, one feels more part of a neighborhood. Still, it's an easy walk to Placa Espanya and the Palau Nacional with its Museum of Catalonian Art. It's more challenging but walkable to get to Las Ramblas but the metro is so convenient that being a little apart just means that one can see more of he city.
The VE staff are very friendly and helpful (speak Spanish, Catalan, English and probably others...), the rooms are clean and quite modern and free internet access is provided in a mezzanine area. The hotel restaurant is decent. There are a few other restaurants in the area, notably La Scarpetta for Italian.
We made a point every morning of walking about six blocks east on the Gran Via to have breakfast at Escriba', an excellent bakery and high-end chocolatier with incredible pastries and desserts.
Our stay at the hotel made the trip a great success. I would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone.

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend for our wedding anniversary.

We'd been to Barcelona 4 yeasr before so we already had a list of places we wanted to cover.

I can only repeat what many people have said about this hotel.

The good points:

Wonderfully clean, contemporary designed rooms.
Very friendly staff htroughout the hotel.
Free tea/coffee and croissants on the first floor from 5-7 pm.
Piano-player every Fri/Sat/Sun evening in the Zinc bar.
An excellent roof terrace (bar wasn't open when we were there but drinks could be taken up).
Great location (right next to metro).
Free Access to internet.

The bad points:

Zinc bar- we dined here once and found it oevrpriced, a cheeseboard for 20 euros!!!.

We would definitely return to this lovely hotel.

I booked this hotel for a 40th birthday girls weekend away, after reading the reviews on trip advisor, and I would really struggle to find fault with it, Barcelona turned out to be one of the nicest cities I have visited.
My friends' jaws dropped when we arrived at the hotel, as they obviously weren't expecting somewhere so nice for what we were paying! We got there by metro from the bus station (flew to Girona then took the Barcelona Bus). Initially I was concerned that the hotel wasn't central, but I soon realised it wasn't a problem - the Rocafort metro stop is only minutes away from the hotel & you can go anywhere from there, & there's the added bonus that it's fairly quiet round the area of the hotel & felt safe. Anyway it was only a few stops on the metro to all the main attractions of the city.
Although the weather wasn't great, we took the lift up to the rooftop terrace just to be nosy, & it's really lovely up there (it wasn't open, maybe it opens later in the season). We had some nice wine in the Zinc bar downstairs, & the staff were friendly even though our attempts at Spanish were pretty pathetic.
The rooms were fine, although we didn't spend much time in them as we were out enjoying ourselves, but they were modern, clean & comfortable. Overall we were delighted, & it certainly enhanced our stay in Barcelona.

I stayed at Villa Emilia for 6 nights. Great boutique hotel. Very modern and sleek. The location was ok. About 20 minutes walking to Placa Catalunya/Ramblas. But the metro was only a 2 minute walk, which was great as you could enjoy the city on the metro.

The rooms were spacious, although the bed was much too firm for me. The toiletries in the bathroom were great (h20 plus). The room was always cleaned. I also enjoyed the large windows facing the street. It was so nice opening them up while we slept and getting that great breeze.

We ate once at the Zinc restaurant downstairs. Not good. Very bland food and overpriced for what it was. The wine was tasty though.

Great deli's a couple of doors down. Excellent for breakfast. All in all, a nice hotel and a good value.

I stayed here with my boyfriend in October 2008.

This is a great little hotel, very chic and clean. Lovely breakfast and good service. The staff were friendly enough.

If I went back to Barcelona, I would certainly stay here again.
