Every January I take graduate students to Barcelona to study with their counterparts there, due to the global pandemic restrictions we could not travel this year. Instead, Devour Tours helped us bring some flavors of Spain into our homes and helped us create a happy and engaged group of students through two different activities: 1) virtual cooking class of paella and gazpacho and 2) team building scavenger hunt and Spanish omelet (tortilla) cooking competition. The first activity was with my students only--to give them some flavor of Spain and to get them excited about engaging in a virtual team project with their peers in Spain. The second activity was about helping the intercultural teams gel with one another. Even though they were in their own respective homes, Owen did a fantastic job facilitating the program so that the intercultural teams could compete and begin to feel team interdependence--an essential component of producing quality work.
Overall, we felt that these experiences were well-executed and the students (and I) had a lot of fun. Students enjoyed the new dishes they made and, more improtantly, the students connected very well with one another!
On.a different note, I want to point out that working with James and his crew was easy. James was very responsive and informative. I highly recommend.
