THE FOOD: it was good, but by far not the best in Madrid - therefore only 4 stars. Of the big selection we shared, I best liked the tuna tartar. Had big expectations of the truffle pizza, did not like the consistency of the cheese though - was like chewing gum.

THE SERVICE: friendly, but not 100%. Ordered drinks twice but never arrived.

THE RESTAURANT: liked the location!

THE PRICE: 6 people with lots of food and wine: 200€

We were really excited about our visit to bar tomate, and at the end we got very disappointed. Not the service expected, maybe we didn't order the food we should have.To give you an approximate idea, 10 pastas in a bowl is quite little. The prices are okay but it can get very expensive if you take wine and pieces of steak.
Anyway, even tho I won't come back, it is not too bad.

Excellent tapas and service. Simply delicious and a very fair price. A fairly short menu but good variety. Nice choice of inexpensive wines and beer.

We went to Bar Tomate after a recommendation by a friend. They were not wrong. The place accepts reservations via the internet, which is great.

The restaurant has a very nice and simple (modern) design. Their best food is the one done in Firewood. The Provolone with tomato is fantastic, and the truffled pizza is to die for. The Beef Tartar was exquisite.

The service was wonderful, the waiter's recommendations spot on, and in general, a very nice dining experience.

Prices are fantastic too, expect to pay around €40 per person with a bottle of wine (€25).

A stroll down the Paseo Colon afterwards, to see the huge Spanish flag waving fiercely in the Spanish Spring Wind rounded off a perfect evening.

We actually only dropped in for a post-dinner drink as it looked so lively and buzzing. The barman was really helpful and prepared us a couple of special rums which were really excellent. It was a pity that we had already eaten as it looked like the diners were enjoying their meals. Next time for sure.
