Stayed for one night in one of their economy rooms. A tiny cubicle with a regular sized bathroom. Adequate because we just returned from Seville to catch a plane back to the US the next morning. Location is good because it's just a short walk to Plaza de Orientes. Check out their other offerings but skip their economy rooms which are not so cheap after all. Convenient location for restaurants but that's not unusual for any Madrid hotel.

I just want to thank Daniel from the reception, he is very helpful. I've asked for some urgent document to be printed and scanned. Daniel was there to help and he offered whatever needed to help to print my paper with his genuine smile and positive attitude.

We arrived at Hotel Opera on September 23rd for one night only having flown Vancouver/London/Madrid and were extremely tired. The idea was to spend one night recovering from the flight, go on to Segovia and return to the Hotel Opera to join our West Vancouver tour group on September 27th for three nights.
We were allocated room 901. We paid $270CAD . The room was extremely small, bed a standard double although we had expected larger. We did sleep well and comfortable but the room was far below our expectations.
When we returned to Hotel Opera and joined our group, our room was excellent, larger in all aspects. Wonder why we were not given one of those rooms for our first night.
Incidentally the waitress in the breakfast room was delightful and efficient and the location of the hotel could not be bettered.

Room Tip: State that you will not accept a room with a number ending in -01.

Stayed at Hotel Opera for three nights and moved rooms after first night. The rooms are very small and on the first night we were on the fourth floor overlooking the bus stop. The noise through the night was unbearable. The hotel does not appear to have any form of sound proofing. We stayed at the Hotel Suisse in Nice during August and the sound proofing there was fantastic. When we asked for a quieter room we were begrudgingly offered a room on the seventh floor, which was quieter.

I find it difficult to eat breakfast in a room with no windows and the poor waitress was run off her feet as she appeared to have no help. Tables were not cleared and we had to ask twice for coffee.

On the plus side, the location is excellent. Everything is within walking distance and the metro is almost on the door step.

If you are not a light sleeper and can cope with tiny rooms and breakfast in a 'broom cupboard' then this could be the right hotel for you.

Room Tip: Higher the better and facing the side street rather than the bus stop.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Opera for three nights at the beginning our trip, and then another three nights near the end (with two weeks between). We were in different rooms, but both visits were easy and comfortable. The staff at the desk were always friendly and helpful, and helped us solve a couple of minor problems not related to the hotel. The buffet was very good -- a variety of items, well prepared and tasty. The wait-staff was also friendly and helpful. While the rooms were not huge, they were ample and comfortable. If there was a negative, it was that the wi-fi was a little weak in the room, but very fast downstairs in the lounge. We would stay there the next time we are in Madrid!
