I kept looking at my options for an airport area hotel (near MAD) and I just knew staying at one would end up being trapped in one of those old, worn out hotels that gave me the creeps. Also, not a 'creepy airport hotel' but I did stay at the Novotel (on O'Donnell) earlier this year and it was no bueno (especially for their prices!). Having just come back from a less than ideal stay in Rome, I wanted to spend a couple of days just chillin' as my 3 week vaca was wrapping up and in preparation for a long journey home to the US. Came across this one online and I'm so glad I did. Knowing I didn't especially want to go into the historical center, I was fine with staying kind of midway between the airport and the tourists areas. The taxi from MAD wasn't too bad ($20-$25E) and if you book on the Artiem website directly you can get a buffet breakfast included + an option to have them drop you off in the historical center of Madrid (on Sat & Sun mornings only). I overslept and missed breakfast but fortunately the property offers yummy snacks all day + unlimited drinks included (what?!?). Additionally, the property is spotlessly clean and the front desk staff is very nice & helpful. I got an Urban Big room which was very spacious. For me the pillows were not comfortable...I kept looking at my options for an airport area hotel (near MAD) and I just knew staying at one would end up being trapped in one of those old, worn out hotels that gave me the creeps. For me the pillows were not comfortable at all but all else about the stay was exceptional. Love the social mission / charitable / environmentally friendly aspects of their business, plus the unique concept, in general. I even bought one of the cool hemp market bags they sell ($95E). If you request the Carnitas room, 100% of the money is donated by the hotel (part of their mission-driven business model). I definitely will stay here again when going to (or through) Madrid and check out their other properties also. More
