Description: Founded in 1888 by a group of locals, was the first settlement with electricity from Pamplona, "opened to the public on the eve of San Fermin by filling to the porches", say the Chronicles of the time followed year after year, and still is the meeting point of all the locals, and all those foreigners who want to see the local who became world famous writer Ernest Hemingway.

We had lunch here just because Hemingway supposedly used to hang out here. Located at the Plaza del Castillo, it looks great from the outside, at the floor of a beautiful building. The decorations inside are also very classy. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside. Lunch was trout and pork ribs, absolutely delicious. We had to ask for some lemon wedges for the trout but that was delivered within a minute. Great experience! Their pintxos also looked great so we came back the following day and sat inside but alas, there was a different menu for eating inside, so we ended up having lunch somewhere else as it was cold and somewhat windy on that 2nd day.

First visted for breakfast when I feasted on a massive slice of tortilla, a montadito de jamon and a freshly squeezed oj for just 6 euros, then I went back in the afternoon for churros (off the menu and very kindly made especially for me). The decor is great, like stepping back in time (I believe it has not changed since it first opened in 1888). No wander Hemingway was a regular!
Don't miss it if you are in Pamplona.

A great location to kick back and do nothing in particular. We used it for afternoon hot chocolate, breakfast and dinner because of its great central location.

The food is not brilliant but is very adequate, Breakfast was half the price of our close by hotel -- and possibly better. Good fresh OJ.

The interior is magnificent and not to be missed albeit it is very noisy when busy. The service is efficient but a bit indifferent. At the rear is a statue to Hemingway - a bit tucked away but then everywhere in Pamplona seems to claim a connection to or has a statue or bust of Hemingway.

We enjoyed an afternoon drink under the umbrellas in the town square. The interior is beautiful, as if from a movie, and the staff is friendly and efficient. Can't comment on the food, but the people watching and relaxation rating were very good.

This is a very attractive, classic café’. Great for a drink or a lunch.

Excellent people watching.

I don’t know how Ernest Hemingway found time to write. He seems to have spent most of his time in café’s and bars.
