Charming home, warm hospitality

Review of La Casa di Ele
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 May 2024via mobile
Our hosts were very welcoming and our room with a patio was perfect for a memorable one night stay w breathtaking views. Breakfast included several homemade pastries. The property was easy to access with a 5 min walk from a nearby overnight garage. Worked well for us for a short, enchanting stay, with light luggage.

Awesome and authentic place. The view from the balcony was the best I ever had, it’s really worth to stay here, don’t even look for another place. Perfect starting pont to everywhere, easy to access when you arrive and located close to restaurants and bistros. The owner is very helpful and the breakfast is great here,

Four of us stayed in two rooms at this great mini-tel operated by two brothers who turned the family home into accommodations for travelers.
The rooms are interesting, with high ceilings and great views out on street life or the sassi.
Breakfast included some homemade goodies, as well as meat and cheese selections. Our room was actually just four steps down into the central area.
There is a small patio with chairs and umbrella where you can sit out with a bottle of wine and watch the sassi light up.
Right outside the main door is access to a central plaza, with anything you could need and several ways to access the sassi.

Location was perfect and room was clean. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Raffaele gave us many tips and places to visit.
The room was nice but I found the beds really hard.
The breakfast was delicious and they served natural, typical and home made food.

Room tip: Available parking near location

La Casa Di Ele is one of the best hotels/B&B’s we have ever stayed at! For a very reasonable price we stayed in one of their apartments a short walk from the hotel. It is beautifully remodeled part of the Sassi. The apartment was tastefully decorated, large and airy, had great air conditioning and a large bathroom. It also came with a lovely terrace in the middle of the sassi. The beds were comfortable and we were so comfortable their. The breakfast is out of this world with so many options and home baked goods from the hotel managers mother. Erasmo is one of the reasons to stay here. He goes so far out of his way to help you enjoy your stay and it is clear he loves Matera. As soon as we arrived he made us coffee and we sat with a nap so he could point out the best sights and restaurants. Listen to him! His advice is impeccable!

One thing to note, of course Matera has TONS of stairs. If you stay in the apartments you are going to have to climb up and down to get to the hotel for breakfast. It was worth it! But if you want to cut down on stairs the guest rooms in the main hotel are right off Il Corso with no additional stairs and an easy walk from the train station.

I wish every hotel were this exceptional! Don’t hesitate to book this place, you will not regret it!

If I had to make a top 10 of all the places I’ve stayed when being abroad, La Casa di Ele would be one the the top on the list. This place has absolutely everything you can hope when visiting a city: First of all, its location is perfect. You’re within a seven minute walk to the central train station and just in the heart of the city, seconds away from the ancient and wonderful Sassi as well as the main square, Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Second of all, Raffaele and his family, who run the place, are the perfect hosts. He made everything so simple from the moment we arrived! He gave us lots of tips and recommendations (places to visit, local restaurants to have a typical meal far from the usual touristic places…), and always with a smile on his face! A especial mention has to be made to the wonderful breakfast they prepare for their guests. They have fresh riccotta every morning, which is delicious, and Raffaele’s mother bakes an incredibly tasty lemom cake, which is out of this place! Last, but not least, the room in which we stayed was beautifully comfortable and with a balcony with a lovely view over Sassi Barisano, one of the two main neighbourhoods that form the old city. We couldn’t have asked for more. So, if you go to Matera in the near future, La Casa di Ele is the perfect choice for having a wonderful stay!
