We loved our room here - the huge bath was gorgeous and the views from our patio were amazing. The staff and breakfast were all good too.
The only thing was that I wasn’t expecting to have to pay extra for the transfer from the garage - considering it wasn’t possible to drive to the hotel so we had no option but to use the transfer I would have expected this to be included.

Hotel is well situated in Matera - rooms are spread out and not within the Reception area - those with a view and small terrace are large, clean and beautiful. Staff is very attentive and did a great job helping with reservations and private transportation. While no fault of Hotel, if you have mobility issues be forewarned that there are many steps to climb to access both room location and within some rooms. Their restaurant which has a great view requires even more climbing.

The rooms at SA are actual caves. Our room had a small door and a small window. Consequently, the room was very hot. We could cool it down unless we left the doors open.
The bed was fine, but the pillows were memory foam, which I don’t like. I asked for a different pillow, but there weren’t any. Ultimately I stuffed the hotel robe in a pillow case.
Our bathroom door was see-through glass. I love my husband, but I don’t want to see him using the toilet. I don’t want him to see me using the toilet. Some things should remain a mystery. Had I known about the see through glass, I never would have booked the room.
The breakfast buffet was lovely and the decor in the dining room was stunning.
There are quite a few stairs at this hotel, so if you have mobility issues, think twice about booking here.

We’re sorry to hear that this made your stay uncomfortable. Please know that all our rooms are equipped with a ventilation system designed to help regulate the temperature, and our staff would have been happy to assist with any adjustments: our Reception staff is available for assistance 24/7.
As for the bathroom door, we understand that the glass design may not be to everyone’s preference. If you had informed us about this issue from the start, we would have done our best to find an ideal solution.

Matera is wonderful and well worth the trip. If you’re driving, having a car is a bit of a pain. But this hotel didn’t make it any easier and you pay dearly for the privilege. Our room was ok. Small but clean and quiet. The hotel is spread out across several buildings so you never really get to experience the service aspect of the hotel. The few things we asked for such as dinner reservations were met with mixed results. Then we tried to check out. You need to be driven to the parking garage so you have to make a reservation, which we did. Getting help with luggage and getting on the van were a bit chaotic with people being separated from their travel partners because they had overbooked the vans. Not a great way to end a stay in such a lovely town. And the cost of the garage which you pay to the hotel, not the garage, is exorbitant by most standards and compared to rates I paid in other towns in the region. All in all, a nice hotel, well situated, some rooms with great views but service was lacking.
