My wife and I had a lovely 5-night stay at La Tonnarella, June 13-18, 2015! We were very pleased with all aspects of this hotel, some of which we list below.

1. The room was very comfortable and the terrace is a must, providing open views of Mt. Vesuvius across the Gulf of Naples. The grounds of the hotel are fascinating, and very well kept.
2. The hotel is just a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Sorrento, and a couple of small convenience stores are even closer. The bus stop is just a 2-minute walk down from the hotel.
3. The private beach is small, and it is pebbles/rocky, not sandy. Still, it is a pleasant place to relax and have a swim.
4. The daily breakfast was amazing! All the usual cold-cuts, cheeses, pastries, fruits, yogurts, juices, coffee, etc., but also eggs, bacon, etc. to order. And of course whatever coffee drinks you wanted from the espresso bar, cheerfully prepared and served. The breakfast room staff -- Antonio and Giuseppe -- were terrific, and more about them below.
5. We dined in the restaurant two nights, and it was very nice. Again, service by the two lads was excellent, and the menu was varied and our choices delicious.
6. We save the best for last: The staff at La Tonnarella were all outstanding! I've mentioned Giuseppe and Antonio, who cooked and served our food at breakfast and dinner. They were polite, yet playful, friendly, and generally great to be around. The two reception staff that served us -- Caterina and Cristina -- went out of their way to provide us with extra needs in the room, directions to local destinations, and even made calls to help me find a certain item. Cristina, I never did find my Scacciapensieri, but I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf! Thanks also to Mateu, who was on duty some evenings. And thanks to the room service; our room was always clean and well made up.

Thanks to all who contributed to our wonderful stay at La Tonnarella! We recommend it to all!

Charles ("Carletto") and Denise Galt

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea-view terrace! Try for an end room for a bit more privacy (the terraces have a clear view to neighbors)

A small hotel has beautiful views of the ocean and Sorrento Bay, but you must get it right. The best view would be the corner room, and suites. Nonetheless, the grounds, decor, and design of hotel were beautiful. The staff were so helpful and friendly in booking our tours, especially Mariela. Their restaurant is also lovely with dining either on the terrace, weather permitting, or inside. Breakfast also included and they make eggs your way, if want more than the cold cuts, cheeses, yogurts, breads and pastry. The hike up and down the hill to get to center of town is a workout of some 15-20 minutes. Factor in another 15- 20 minutes if you want to go down to the marina grande on a easy stroll. It' steep but manageable especially if need to walk off lovely dinners from town. Views are amazing too.

My family and I stay at La Tonnarella in late May 2015. It was wonderful! Fantastic views, great breakfast, a very nice in-hotel restaurant open for dinner, and a friendly hard-working staff, always on its game, and a very spacious property that made for wonderful relaxing. At the top of the hill, La Tonnarella provides your own private view of Vesuvius. It is also an easy walk from town, yet far enough down and back to afford a nice daily exercise. I need not stay anywhere else in Sorrento.

Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The hotel is close to the city centre (10-15 min walk) with a convenient bus transportation from the train station. It seems that the hotel consists of many tiny beautiful particles, which make you feel as in an old and peasful family house. Excellent views to the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. We stayed in a deluxe room with a huge terrace, which was equipped with a table, a few chairs, two sunbeds and an umbrella. There were cups and a kettle; vine glasses were not included, but we asked for them at the reception. Rooms are clean and comfortable, although the bed is double, not queen. The beach is also clean and quiet on working days and crouded by locals during the weekend. The bad thing is that you have to pay for beach towels, sun beds and umbrellas. You can use the elevator to go down to the beach, but we recommend to take the stairs, because there is a very beautiful and peaceful pathway with a small waterfall, plants and trees, and bird singing. Breakfast is superb. You can ask chief to prepare eggs with bacon for you. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks clear English. We would definetely come again next time.

Room Tip: Deluxe room does not have a bath, only a shower.

This was our second stay at La Tonnarella and the first time I have ever returned to the same hotel. We have stayed in some lovely hotels in spectacular settings, Dubrovnik, Split, Taormina, Ragussa, Amsterdam, Vienna, Budapest etc but have fallen love with this hotel, its setting and staff. All the staff are so friendly and make us feel relaxed and welcome. Mariella is a gem speaking superb English and so helpful. Giuseppe always brought a smile to our faces each morning speaking excellent English and helping me improve my Italian. Fabio looked after parking, carried luggage and always willing to help.
The hotel is spotless, full of character, stunning views, great breakfast and coffee. Thank you to everyone for making this holiday as special as it was last year. We are already planning to return for a third year.
