Owner description: This museum has all of the interesting finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum, both doomed cities after the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD.

We explored this museum after a tour of the excavated ruins at nearby Pompeii.
This museum contains the largest collection of art and artifacts recovered from the ruins. You can see the daily and personal items used by the people of Pompeii before the eruption of Vesuvius destroyed their city.
There is also ancient Egyptian and Roman art and artifacts displayed in other areas.

Really enjoyed this visit and liked this Museum very much. We got the tickets and layout and then planned our visit despite a little hassle from a Guide who tried to show us around stating it would take three weeks to see everything. We knew what we wanted to see but she was persistent. . Actually we went after visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum but would have gone before had we have known how much it had there. Go early as it gets very busy. Some of the displays are not in English but this did not matter to us. Nicely laid out - good visit.

A great selection of Greek and Roman exhibits, however the layout was confusing. Able to leave bags in the cloakroom. We went on a rainy day and it was a great way to spend a few hours.

This is perhaps the noisiest museum we’ve ever visited.......yes, it contains beautiful pieces from Pompeii and Herculaneum which is probably the primary reason for visiting but with only a room map to go on (unless you pay extra for a guide book / audio tour), we found it at times to be confusing and disjointed - not all items carry a translation in the description and many pieces appeared to be copies (?). Strangely enough, I found the Egyptian collection to be the best bit! Worth a visit but pay the extra so you get to know what it is you’re actually looking at!
