Gino greeted us very happily, even though we were a little before opening time.
It hadn't taken us long to walk from our hotel, but the street is not signposted at the Via Toledo end, so we had to check directions with a nearby shop owner .
Very nice prosecco to start with.
Gino presented the fish for our inspection. We chose two and Gino advised one variety would be best grilled and the other baked with tomatoes.
Eggplant parmigiana was very good. We have had it many times in our five weeks in Italy and this one was one of the best we've had.
Gino's dad does the cooking.
The fish was bought cooked to the table and filleted there.
My grilled fish was a little on the dry side - could be the variety, I'm not sure.
My husband had the oven baked version, cooked with tomatoes which results in the "crazy water" broth. He enjoyed it very much.
A complimentary lemon sorbet was presented.
We even shared a home made dessert. A creamy tart topped with very tasty small wild strawberries.
Wine was very good and reasonably priced.
I think there were three generations of the family lined up to farewell us on our departure!

I am Italian, and I was looking forward to try this place given the high ratings on Tripadvisor. The food was overall mediocre. I was very surprised to see that on the Italian menu - which includes few simple dishes - most fish dishes are frozen, including the king prawns. We took the non-frozen fish, which however didn't taste particularly fresh. Although admittedly the restaurant is quite cheap, it did not feel worth it and there are better options in Naples.

ora mi rivolgo a voi a voi cari lettori di trip che leggerete questa recensione, tanto immeritata, quanto avuta diciamo cosi per dire per "dispetto", la "signora" è venuta a cena da noi mercoledi, 17 maggio erano in 3, mamma, figlia e nonna, ordinano due antipasti, tra cui alici marinate e polpo all'insalata, e come portata principale due fritture di alici sale e pepe, e una fetta di pesce spada, e anche due insalate miste e una porzione di patatine, per finire una crostata di fragoline, e da bere una bottiglia d'acqua e una di vino, da dire che già a fine degli antipasti chiedo come se era di tutto gradito, come mia abitudine e per tastare la soddisfazione dei "clienti", arrivano i secondi piatti e nel piatto non rimane niente, e testuali parole di una dei 3 commensali, tutto molto buono. e così anche per il dolce per il quale ricevo i complimenti, per la crostata di fragoline di bosco fatta da noi!
il problema nasce, quando porto il conto (60€ in tre, per antipasti e 3 secondi, 3 contorni, un dolce, acqua e vino), gia non si trovavano con il totale del conto, quindi le spiego tutte le voci e l'addizione e risultavano che il conto era giusto) da qui mi sento dire vabbe ci devi fare lo sconto, perche le "signore" avendo prenotato su un sito estraneo alla struttura, dove non le gestiamo noi direttamente, pensavano di avere lo sconto, le faccio presente che a me non risultava che il cliente in questione dovesse avere nessuno sconto, e quindi invito la cliente a verificare la sua mail di conferma, che non inviamo noi, e dopo qualche momento di imbarazzo, mi sento dire che dovevo fare lo sconto. io per essere chiaro e corretto la ri invito ad aprire la conferma dove risultava che alla fine avevo ragione io.
ora come nostra abitudine e consuetudine, offriamo sempre ai nostri clienti un limoncello, un amaro, un caffe a loro scelta, ma in questo caso avrei fatto anche uno sconto per far si che il cliente uscisse dal mio ristorante soddisfatto. ma davanti alla cassa dove abbiamo anche una videocamera di sorveglianza, e quindi tutto filmato , mi sento dire "solo a napoli succedono queste cose, a firenze non sarebbe mai capitato", bhe mi sono sentito ferito nell'orgoglio, perchè sono sempre stato gentile con tutti e continuerò a fare il mio lavoro. ma non posso accettare questo genere di insulti da persone che non sanno leggere, perchè se avessero saputo leggere non avrebbero preteso sconti non davuti, o forse devo pensaer che ci avete provato.
ora ritornando alla recensione stessa capireteda soli che tipo di persona è la signora che parla di gamberoni congelati, ma mai odinati, anzi sono state dirette a scegliere le alici fritte, perchè da loro è difficile trovarle fresche.
ora vi do un consiglio tecnico, gamberoni freschi difficilmente anzi impossibile che li troverete in nessuna trattoria, e chi li spaccia per tali, vi sta prendendo in giro, noi per onestà verso i nostri ospiti, lo diciamo anzi è scritto nel menù stesso che sono congelati, ma qualitativamente non hanno niente da invidiare ai "freschi"in quanto sono congelati a bordo come il 98% dei gamberoni in circolazione!!
inoltre il nostro menù lo cambiamo ogni giorno, perchè mio padre (lo chef) va al mercato tutte le mattine e quindi adattiamo il nostro menù alle esigenze della freschezza dei prodotti. e in più per chi volesse avere maggiori certezze su quello che ho detto possiamo esibire le fatture di ogni giorno, dove dimostra che il nostro pescato è fresco e di giornata.
inoltre mia cara signora carol, le do un consiglio visiti la nostra fan page su face, e vedrà le foto e video giornalieri del nostro pescato fresco.
in ultimo prima di salutarla, (per modo di dire), inutile scrivere in inglese, è più italiana di me!!

We tried this trattoria as it seemed to be a nice one. It took 1hour to obtain a raviolis (very small quantity) and some pasta, the 3rd plate arriver 15minutes later and wasn't what we expected.
Half the seafood on the menu is frozen (calamari, and others), what a shame for a restaurant on the seaside....
They all knew things were wrong but nobody ever tried to solve things, we left very upset!

We stayed in Napoli for just one night, so wanted to make sure we had a good evening meal. This place was just right.
The fresh fish was perfect and filleted at the table, the steak was one of the best had in Italy. Wine very good as was the coffee. Excellent service. A very nice restaurant, and not too expensive.

Our first evening in Naples after a long day of motorways and airports. We wanted somewhere within easy walking distance of our hotel. This restaurant 'hit the spot' in every respect. Wonderful fresh food. ..huge grilled prawns and pasta with clams and mussels. Loved the bread in a bag too: had a salty crust that was well washed down with ENORMOUS glasses of prosecco.
Waiting staff charming and fun as we tried to discover who the street was named after. (Transpired it was a politician
and one of Garibaldi's men)
Highly recommended and the bill very reasonable.
We will return. Thank you
