We stayed in Pompei Cita to visit the ruins and Vesuvio.
The city itself is a delight. We were there on a particularly hot spring weekend and it was busy.
The cathedral is the focal point with its piazza and garden in front.
We spent many hours people watching here - and traffic watching. Sunday particularly around the piazza, apparently it was the Catholic Orthodox Easter and many had travelled far to do a pilgrimage to the cathedral.
We used this a base to do Vesuvius, don’t get caught by the tourist touts. There is a bus that goes from the Piazza Ampiteatro which costs ~€3. They will try and sell you tours which cost substantially more. Same for Amalfi Coast, Naples etc. All are easily accessible by public transport and it’s cheap. More
