“Hope on- hop off for the time constrained”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

Hi All!!

If you plan on visiting Rome, especially with a short amount of time, be sure to check out the various hop on- hop off buses. Most are double deck style buses with an open air upper deck. They continuously drive around the city and stop at all of the major attractions (Vatican, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, etc.). The great thing about these, with the exception of the multiple stops, is that a pass lasts for the day. So, if you are like me, you can get off the bus at each stop to enjoy the sights and sounds.

Of course, there are a TON of tourists from all over the world on these buses, so unfortunately, it will not be an intimate moment for you and yours. But, then again, it wouldn't make a difference if you were on the bus or not, you will find that each of these sites are absolutely packed with people.

If you are staying at a hotel, be sure to ask the host if they have a buy one, get one pass. It seems that each of the bus line operators offer a free second ticket with the purchase of the first, but presumably, you will need to get the coupon from a local business.

In short, this is a great way to see the city, especially if you don't have much time. You will hit all of the major sites, plus, you have the freedom to get off the bus at will to explore further.

P.S. Make sure that you sit on the upper deck if possible.......it offers fantastic views of the city's unbelievable architecture. Enjoy!

“Most convenient way to see Rome !!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2012

Doesn't have many but only 6 or 7 stops. This is the best way to see Rome as all main attractions are covered. Ticket is EUR 21.00 and fully worth it. The stops at Colosseum, Vatican, Hippodrome, Piazza Venezia are central to many other attractions and reachable by foot. Due to regular frequency, buses are not so crowded. I had a very pleasant experience.

They offer (double price) tickets to avoid non existent queues at the Vatican Museum. Biggest scam of our 4 week European holiday

“This one was with Vastours”

I tried out this tour as it was booked through my travel agent. The location of their bus stop at Termini Stazioni was initially difficult to find. This was coupled with the fact that the driver/guide didn't follow the route provided on the map. I travelled on supposedly the same route 3 different times on the same day (with different drivers), and each time the tour followed a route that was contradictory to the map provided. I realise they list that there are changes to the itiniery due to traffic and after certain times on the weekend, but it made it very difficult to work out where certain sites were to return to later. Another issue is that they provide stops for major tourist sites, but these are at times a 10 minute walk away. In fairness, I have only tried this company so it may be the same with the other groups, but it was frustrating.
