Description: "La Gattabuia" is located in old Trastevere, in a splendid tavern 1400 (o 400?) year old. The three rooms match a fine old-fashioned furnishing with terracotta brick walls, arches and vaults. Among the typical restaurants of the area, "La Gattabuia" is one of the most famous. It is easy to reach, in between the alleys and piazzas. The restaurant was born from the walls of an ancient prison of the Papalin era. We are glad to welcome you in a pleasant environment filled with natural pigments. Our service has nothing to envy to luxurious restaurants. The tables are disposed so to have a certain distance from each other. We have an eterogeneous menu, easy to adapt to everybody. A night at "La Gattabuia" will definitely leave you impressed: you will soon be asking for more! You will find several different dishes, ranging from tasty appetizers, fried and grilled vegetables, typical roman dishes (Carbonara, Gricia, Amatriciana, Cheese and Pepper) among which you will find our "Chef Offers", like Gnocchi with Colonnata Lard and Courgettes pate, Strozzapreti with Boletus and Truffles or Rigatoni with Tail Tomato Sauce. Delight yourself with our grilled meat (from Argentina and Denmark), our roasts, fillets and steaks. Try our roman tripe, stewed beef tail, Lamb Offal. Our vast selection of Pizzas, baked in our wood stove, will make your mouth water. Our cellar is filled with an accurate assortment of red wines ordered by region. We have at our disposal more than 80 different wines from Lazio

Saw this restaurant in trip advisor being close to the hotel and with relatively good rating. I was visiting Rome for my bday and decided to try it....to be completely honest, the ratings saying is a good restaurant were wrong....the restaurant is superb.....best ravioli we ever had in our life, not to mention the pasta carbonara and the starter for two. Lots of locals eating here which gives you the idea of a typical Roman restaurant. Also, our waiter Mattia is the best waiter in Rome and did his best to speak our language. In summary is a must come back restaurant because atmosphere, service, location and especially food. 5/5 for this small gem next to the river.

Charming little family-owned restaurant. They had prepared a special meal, with wine, for our group. The food was delicious, and the service made us Americans feel very welcome. Five course meal, and it was all good. Meatballs, fish, pizza, pasta, it was delicious.

Food is quite good, although no garlic in the bruschetta (bruschetta without garlic is not bruschetta, period) and no garlic in the cicoria (same as before). The place is quite iconic but we experienced a big mess (the personnel kept moving tables around to arrange the place for big groups of people coming; the ceiling shape and the small rooms amplified the big noise coming from the other tables). Moreover, we did not make a reservation but because of the way we have been served (quite superficially and with suggestions like "do not order that dish otherwise you must wait for it forever", etc.)... we would have preferred a "sorry, we cannot serve you without reservation". Prices are somehow high and, last but not the least, such a place should have the wifi since it is completely underground and cellphones cannot connect to the network.

Cosy restaurant in one of the most typical Rome's neighborhood. Various traditional dishes of the Rome cuisine, for an Italian person living abroad like me, it is definitely the perfect place where to go to enjoy regional cuisine. Flawless service and also good wine list. I would recommend to foreigners, waiters know what they're offering and they're quite honest & available to give suggestions.

If you want to eat like the Italians do and if you really want to taste genuine Italian plates you must go there. La Gattabuia was one of the best things that we will allways remember from this marvelous city of Rome. The atmosphere is of a real tavern of Trastevere. The food is really delicious. The prices are very reasonable (20-25 € per person). Our waiter was very helpful and he easily understood our needs. It’s very important for a tourist (a foreigner generally) to find somebody to understand what he‘s looking for (including his financial afford). Do not hesitate to let the waiters to propose you some plates, or the wine.
In conclusion, La Gattabuia is one of the best restaurants we ‘ve ever visited in our lives.
Grazie amici! We will allways remember you and looking forward to see you again during our next visit to Rome (hopefully)!
Greetings from Greece!
