This hotel layout is the weirdest I have ever encountered as it resides in a complex of hotel/hostels. We entered a large opening and there were signs for different hotels and lots of students sitting everywhere. This hotel is up some stone stairs (no lift from ground floor) and you pass other hotel receptions on your way up so there are different people around from different hotels. We find our hotel reception through a broken glass door and checked in, then we had to go back into the stairwell where there is a very small lift situated between the flights of stairs (very quaint but can take no more than two people with hand luggage). We asked for a room overlooking the back courtyard of the hotel for quietness which was quite a dark room even when the shutters were open. The beds were OK and I had to ask for a softer pillow as the ones on the bed were like a brick. The bathroom was tiny (two of you couldn't be in there at the same time unless one of you were in the shower). The room itself was a strange shape and the full length mirror was in the darkest place in the room so it wasn't of much use. This room didn't feel nice to be in and unless it was much cheaper I would not stay here again. The breakfast was all sweet stuff and was OK if that's what you wanted.

Room Tip: Overlooking the courtyard

Dear guest,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us
First of all we would like to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay
With respect to your feedback, I would like to inform you as follows:As the hotel is situated above the lower ground, which can be seen from photos, the hotel offers rooms that are situated on  second and third floors.
Sorry to hear that you didn't like the ambiance of the hotel. As many other reviews attest, we do have a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. But I believe, it's just a personal choice.
Eventhough our lift may not have met your expectations, we are pleased that you appreciated the location, price value and services. We do apologize for the fact that our lift could not accomodate more than 2 persons with luggages. As you experienced our hotel located in elegant 19th centuary building together with other hotels. It is very difficult to have large elevator due to the huge infrastructural limitation. The lift is small due to the the fact that our building built before the introduction of modern type elevator and it is very common in historical cities esp. in Rome. This fact is already mentioned in replying various other reviews. Our reception is situated on raised ground floor , from there starts lift to the various floors Eventhough we do not have porter service our front desk are willing to assist those persons need special assistance ( physcially challenged ,carrying woman or old people)to manage their luggages by themselves.
It is quite sad that you were not satisfied with your room size and format of the bedroom, we actively ensure all promotional materials are open in regards to the size of our bedrooms, this is due to the ancient building which we take huge pride in remains characteristic yet high class. We always recommend to Guest prior to booking, that they explore all room types available, sizes and amenities of which differ, to ensure that Guests choose and book the room type most suitable to their needs. . We provide upgrading facility by which you can convert small double room to standard or superior rooms where bath room is comparitively large. I would like to add that ALL of our superior rooms are provided with refrigerator facility. Recently we add this facilty to some of our standard rooms but it depends upon the availablity.
I am sorry for the inconvenience you met due to renovation work.As you experienced we already started re styling work, we appreciate the opinions of our guests, key for us when it comes to tailor the product to their needs.

We hope you give us another opportunity to welcome you again in Hotel Continentale so that we can surprise you with true Continentale experience
Yours faithfully,
Jino Joy

Stayed here for 4 nights in November. The rates apparently drop by 50% starting November 1 so at 39 euro per night it's an amazing value. Room is small but comfortable and clean, with nice shower, dependable wifi, lots of TV channels and a small room safe. Breakfast is included each day which was ample to begin each day with. Close to 2 metro stops and the central train station. For the price it can't be beat!

This is a basic hotel which is in a very good location to the termini and supermarkets, 2 are very closely located, the gelateria and bar, restaurant are all near by, the hotel has all the basic amenities, so can not complain, we are travelling on a budget, so overall it is quite nice hotel. This building are shared by 3 different hotels, so go to the first floor to check in and the rooms are on third floor, a bar is opposite the rooms if you are unlucky to have the rooms facing the street, it might be a little bit noisy during the night. The staffs are helpful with questions.

This is a very basic hotel located near the train station so the location is excellent for exploring and getting to public transit. We had a room overlooking an inner courtyard and each morning at 6:00 am, the staff moved garbage cans around and made excessive noise waking us up. We booked the hotel as their website indicated "breakfast is included for all guests'. When we arrived, the man on the desk indicated breakfast was served from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and gave no indication there would be an additional charge for breakfast which was VERY basic. On check-out, we were informed there would be a €24 (Euro) charge for three days of breakfast for us. We disputed this and showed them the website where it indicated in two different spots that breakfast was included for all guests. The same man indicated he told us at check-in there would be a charge for the breakfast which is an outright lie. Had the clerk indicated there would be a charge, we would have had breakfast elsewhere as it is not worth this charge. They have subsequently updated their website to indicate certain rooms do not qualify for free breakfast but this was not the case when we booked or checked out. However it still says it is free for all guests -- very strange! The hotel is also in an open building with other 'hotels and hostels' so there are some very sketchy people hanging out in the lobby area. Would not stay again due to the outright lies of the staff.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else.

Dear guest,

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with us.

Unfortunately, you had a demand which our hotel wasn’t prepared to accommodate . While we understand that limitations can be frustrating, but the hostility and threats you directed at my collegue were very uncalled for. We appreciate all feedback, and on that day we tried our best to speak with you in person and discuss the issues raised. Unfortunately you did not even care to hear our explanation, and you stressed in threating us that I shall write negative comments in Expedia and Tripadvisor.

We take extra care to ensure every guest is fully mindful of free breakfast service is not available to the those reserve small double rooms directly in person and through promotional materials , including third party websites such Expedia, Hotels.com. Nobody made any compliant or dispute so far. In our official website it is specifcly written that breakfast is not included for SMALL NON REFUNABLE ROOM category .. We advertise our smaller rooms as suitable budget travellers who short stay travellers, this is also made perfectly clear on all marketing channels.,
. The room you booked, a small double, is advertised as best use for budget travellers and short stay, therefore with respect, since you were made aware of what you booked as it was your choice. So, it is extremely disappointing to hear that our front desk team didnot explain it well. When the staff explained that you have booked a small double room , you enquired how small it is and our staff replied it is 14mq then explained breakast is not included wihch starts from 7 to 10 from the hall nearby . But you were busy with closing your luggage. In addition to this the first day our staff requested your room number before the breakfast. We have video surveillance and recorded the all the above facts.
It is your duty to read the booking condtions and services availabe before completing the process of reservation. You reserved your room through Hotels.Com and it is specifcally explained that breakfast is not included. I just humbly ask you, if you found that breakfast is included in our offical website for your room category why did'nt book through our OFFICIAL WEBSITE?Why did you opted to book through Hotels.Com?

We are free to offer special offers, services or promotions to those who book a higher category or those guests who reserve a room directly through our official site. Unfortunately that benefit cannot be claimed to others.

Our front office staff as their reputation amongst previous guests, for their courteous and efficient attitude and services is an area we pride ourselves on highly.W. It is in your booking itself clear that breafast is not included. But you did not even care to read that part and kept on arguing to get special privilleges available to those guests reserve higher category Our breakfast costs 4 euro and is not included, this to enable the budget travellers without any obligation, to choose whether to do it or not. We give the possibility to choose the breakfast after I seeing what kind of assortment are available at the time of breakfast

.I sincerely apologise to the fact that you didnt sleep well had you mentioned the issues regarding the discomfot we would have been more than happy to change the room. Upon your next stay in a Hotel, regardless which, please always mention at reception if there is anything they can do to improve your stay and read the conditions&services available before booking
Please stop blaiming others for not reading your conditions of reservation.Well thank you for giving us an oppurtunity to clarify some points which will surely help other readers

With that said, I’m sorry again that you felt you had a bad experience, and wish you the best of luck.

Yours sincerely,
Jino Joy
