We loved retreating to the quiet sophistication of Villa Spalletti Trivelli after our daily museum-ing and exploration of Rome. The garden in the back, surrounded by tall hedges, offers complete privacy in which to enjoy a late lunch of salad caprese and vino from the owners' vineyards while watching the bees and butterflies. We're New Yorkers, so hustle and bustle are part of our daily lives, but we nonetheless felt the need to escape the tourists that populated Rome by the busload, and Villa Spalletti fit the bill perfectly.

Our room was comfortable and atmospheric, with an antique map of Venice set against a backdrop of attractive gold wallpaper. The bathroom was spacious and modern. The public areas make you feel that you are in a luxurious country house, and with the occasional living room photos of the count and countess proprietors and their family you can almost convince yourselves you're their private guests. The staff are competent and polite, but as a minor criticism the front desk addressed us by name only once during our 4-night stay (even though the villa has only a handful of rooms) and didn't exhibit the proactively engaging friendliness and personal interest that we encountered at the three other venues of our trip (Villa San Michele, Le Fontanelle, and Splendido). It's only for that reason that I'm giving the hotel 4 stars for service - in all other respects the service was excellent.

Bottom line: Villa Spalletti Trivelli is a unique and special place, and we would not consider staying anywhere else next time we're in Rome.

Other comments on this site about this hotel say it all. We stayed here for eight nights in September, and it felt like a home from home. The room was larger than average for Rome and the bathroom in particular extremely good. Public rooms are exquisite, delightful and peaceful. Breakfasts were relaxed and tasty-not like buffets in many hotels which are more like a feeding frenzy at a zoo. In particular I would like to thank the staff at breakfast who were attentive and very courteous. If you want help with restaurants, tours etc there is always somebody there to help. Also I really like the fact that you need to ring the bell to get in the property! The family also own a vineyard in Umbria and we ordered a case of their red wine which is very good.

The hotel was originally a private house and retains substantial amounts of the original furnishings. Only twelve rooms makes this a very special hotel ,with such excellent staff from the front desk to the dining room makes this an experience not to be missed .The bedroom was large and quiet and the bathroom had every facility you could need. The breakfasts were not to be missed.

The hotel is in a relatively quiet and peaceful part of Rome but within walking distance of most tourist sights .A word of warning if you're looking for a cheap place to stay this is not for you but if you appreciate elegance and good service hurry up and make a booking.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the beginning of August, before heading to our Villa in Tuscany for two months. The room was spacious, decorated divinely, and the bed was very comfortable. Ammeneties were lovely. Check in was a breeze, and staff were superior. Highly recommended.

Our four days in Rome were spectacular partly because of the weather and partly because of the wonderful accommodations at this twelve room, very private hotel. Originally a private residence, the villa has been transformed into a magnificent boutique property complete with garden. We had one of the smaller rooms but it was quite large, with a great king bed, a well stocked totally complimentary minibar, and a double sinker bathroom. At night there was no noise and no outside light in the room, despite the fact that we were very close to a busy street. Breakfast was varied and delicious. The concierges helped us by suggesting walking routes arranging dining and just being totally helpful at all times.
You may find it disconcerting that the outside door to the villa is always locked. However, once you ring the bell, it is never more than 10 or 15 seconds till someone arrives to admit you. Almost like living in a private club.
Although the wifi connection is excellent, this is not a business hotel! It is a super luxury boutique hotel and is really for couples without children, although there was a family with two small children during our stay.
The public rooms are magnificently furnished if you want to sit and have a coffee and there was a totally underutilized gym and spa in the basement. I used the steam every evening and never saw another person. The gym has four or five running, cycling, elliptical machines total with a universal and a nice collection of free weights and mats. Again I was the only one who used it during our stay.
One of the most memorable hotel experiences of my life and I have been all over the world. A word of caution: rooms are expensive, in the 500 plus Euro range including breakfast.
