We came for 5 days to see Rome and also "live Rome" if you know what I mean. The place is extremely well located, super-clean and has everything we could have wanted. We heard no noise from the other rooms, which we absolultey hate. >They have the most wonderful and relaxed staff and the couple who runs it is absolutely adorable.
We felt at home, private and well taken care of. I want to go back now that I wrote this review..

The owners of the Pensione Barrett, Michele and Cinzia, are clearly dedicated to making their guests’ stay as enjoyable as possible. It's apparent that the pensione is more than a family business to them; it’s their life’s passion. I did a lot of research on restaurants and sightseeing routes and schedules before taking my daughter on our 9-day trip to Rome, where I had lived for four years a few decades ago. The owners and the night concierge, however, gave us masses of extraordinarily helpful information beyond what I already knew. When we returned after our first day with aching muscles from all the walking on cobblestones, they made sure we used the back massager and foot massager in our room. What a difference that made. We used the massagers every day after that. Michele and Cinzia pointed out that there was a lot of thought behind everything they did. It was obvious to us that this was true. We’re late sleepers, so we appreciated the blackout shutters that kept our room dark. The abundant breakfast items and beverages in the room were a bargain and provided the convenience of food and drinks available to use at any time, night or day. Regarding the fun and startling décor that leaves no space unadorned, Michele told us that “irony is important.” One of the things I now miss most about Rome is the Pensione Barrett.

Perfect location. Excellent service. Clean overly decorated room. Very quiet. Ok beds. No breakfast but very good espresso machine in the room. Very recommendable but dont expect a lot of space.

... by "quirky". But it wouldn't be my choice of word. The better word would be "extraordinary" or "wonderful". Things you might encounter in this place include but are not limited to:

- Super-helpful owners (by that I mean they sit down and give you as much planning advice to you as a dozen DEs combined. They even have lists of recommended restaurants with addresses and neighborhoods listed, and detailed touristic information along preplanned walking paths printed out for you)
- several artworks per meter square (two rows of pictures lining each wall of the corridor, flamboyantly colored interior decoration of rooms where you seriously will need to go to museums to reduce your exposure to statues, etc.)
- as the owners call it, an open-buffet breakfast in every room (they have a huge selection of everything they could think of as breakfast food and drinks, crammed into each room's fridge and several baskets. Each room has a mini-toaster oven and a coffee maker)

When we checked in, the owners said they want to make it like home, and they somehow achieve that goal. In the end I did not feel like I had stayed in a hotel, but as if I had stayed in the spare room of some distant relative I have met for the first time.

Its location is so central that we walked everywhere even though we had access to a hop on hop off bus as well as 3-day pass to the public buses. That combined with the price is simply unbeatable. I am not going to say "stay here if you are visiting Rome", I'll say "staying at Pension Barrett is one of the musts of a Rome vacation, just like Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican, etc.

Hotel Barrett is conviently located in the Centro Storico, a few blocks away from Campo dei Fiore and Piazza Navonna. Looking out the window, you see a whole block of ancient Roman temples, actually the oldest one from the republican era. The hotel interior is furnished in the style of Art and Antiquity. The hotel staff is delighted to inform you of the gems of ancient Rome. Thus a very litterary hotel for the cultural traveller. Cosy and nice. The only drawback i there is no elevator and no breakfast room, although there are breakfast facilities in the room.
