We researched this hotel through Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. As a couple we chose the small double room which was adequate for us, as who wants to sit in your room whilst in Rome. The room was cleaned daily and this was of a high standard. The staff were excellent imparting advice as to the best local restaurants and getting about Rome. Breakfast was continental and served with a smile, and the cakes made by Bianca were great. As a location the hotel is well situated about five minutes from the Punto Lungo Metro station and two minutes from the Roma Tuscolana train station, so if you are travelling from Fiumincino Airport to the hotel there is no problem walking to the hotel. We walked to the Colosseum from the hotel on one occasion.

The hotel has some excellent little Osteria nearby and the food is certainly better than at the tourist hot spots, its where the locals eat. Practice your Italian and the locals are more than helpful.

So thanks to Maria, Bianca and all the staff for making us more than welcome.

The Pros:
The biggest advantage of this hotel by far is it's location as it is very well connected which is imperative in a city like Rome. The Tuscolana train station is not even a 5 minute walk away and you can get a train direct from Fiumicino airport to Tuscolana (40 min ride for 8 euros per ticket each way). There is a metro stop 5 mins away and this is on one of the main lines so it brings you to the main tourist areas hassle free.
Whilst the area might seem a little run down at first, it is in fact quite vibrant and I felt very safe. Many parts of Rome are run down and this seems to be the norm in many areas.
The hotel staff are very nice and helpful especially Bruno at reception and the blond lady who takes care of breakfast. I don't know her name.
The hotel is clean and our room had a good bathroom.
The Cons:
Our room was on the ground floor near reception hence it was very noisy at night because we could hear everybody entering and leaving the hotel. As breakfast is served in an area just off reception, at 6AM we could hear the rattling of cutlery etc as the breakfast preparations began. A ground floor room meant bars on the window for safety reasons but coming from Ireland and not being used to this, i felt imprisoned in my room. It felt suffocating.I am aware though that this is common practice in Italy and all ground floor apartments require safety bars. Should i have known this beforehand, i would have requested an upper floor room. I also had to keep the net curtain constantly closed to avoid everybody on the street looking in hence the room was constantly very dark.
We were in a room for 4 people but there was no where to put our clothes! We had to keep everything in the suitcases. No wardrobes, no drawers and no shelves. There was an area of the room that looked like a walk in wardrobe but it contained one bar to hang clothes but just 2 clothes hangers. We requested more and were supplied by 2 more so one hanger each. This area of the room could easily be fitted with shelves or a wardrobe and it was inconvenient to be living out of a suitcase for 5 days.
Rome being the fantastic city that it is meant i only slept in the hotel so the downsides mentioned above didn't ruin my stay in anyway. The location of the hotel probably made up for the downsides.

Room tip: Several rooms are located on the ground floor by reception so can be noisy. Request an upper floor room if you prefer a quieter room.

We spend couple nights in the hotel. The hotel was clean and staff were very helpful and we really enjoyed breakfasts. Unfortunately the walls are very thin and you can hear other guests.
There also some lovely restaurants near by and the stations so its easy to get everywhere.

Hotel Tuscolana delivered a strongly negative experience during our visit in Rome. Although the location of the hotel is quite convenient and breakfast had better variety than other hotels in Italy, room conditions in Tuscolana are really under niveau. Pictures are better than reality in terms of size of rooms. The walls are extremely thin so you can hear everything from upper floors or even from the neighboring room. When we asked receptionist to give us opportunity how we can contact a partying group above our room at 1 o clock at night, he was simply telling he does not know how can we get to this group or how can we approach them. Terrible customer service. I do not recommend the hotel.

Dear Guest,
I’m apprehending only now, from your review, that a neighborhood night party affected your holiday, it must have been frustrating for you to not be able to spend a quite night and I’m sorry I lost the opportunity to remedy.

The safety of our guests and night silence is always our top priority, our staff if highly rated online by Guest’s especially for the attention of the service (here available 24hours), so I guess it was an isolated incident.

Since we take into a high consideration our Guest’s feedback, I would appreciate if you could give me greater detail.

I see on tripadvisor you have reviewed 7 different hotels on the same day, December 4th,

so I need to know which is the period you spent at the Hotel Tuscolana so, together with the staff, we can individuate responsibilities are and prevent from making similar mistakes in the future.

We thank you for mentioning our breakfast variety, it’s much more than a continental affair here, … cheese, eggs, cold cuts, fresh bread, cereals, juices, home made yogurt, cakes and pastries. As also a fresh brewed coffee and cappuccino, like at a bar, is not easy to find in a hotel breakfast. Also our location is convenient for both sightseeing (10 minutes walk to San Giovanni Basilica) and onwards travel to airport terminal.

We published all rooms pictures by reporting the exact room size, that's because we want Guests can have the idea more closer to the reality they will find once with us.

Here it follows what’s online on all official sites, please notify which pictures you found on line not responding to these guidelines:
DOUBLE SMALL - Size of 10 m² - Internal view - French bed ½
DOUBLE STANDARD - Size 16 m² - External or Internal view - Double bed or 2 Single Beds on request

I appreciate if you would be willing to give us a chance to better investigate your claim and, should you return to Rome one day we would be happy welcoming you back again and try to give you different impression.
With kindest regards.
Maria
