Description: Historical restaurant “Matricianella” since 1957, located in the fascinating labyrinth of small alleys between Piazza di Spagna and Via della Fontanella Borghese, between the imposing Palazzo and Piazza San Lorenzo, now turned into an outdoor lounge. Comfortable halls full of small tables with checkered tablecloths and a little terrace overlooking the street, everything according to the Roman tradition.

This little eatery is very popular with both tourists and the locals. So the food it true to it’s Roman origin.
A good smattering of offal dishes and the ever popular pasta dishes. An interesting list of starters. Of course a few deserts. An extensive wine list the size of a house brick so I am not sure where they store all those bottles. Don’t be afraid to order 4the house wine as it is very decent. There is an small outside eating area and there are three inside rooms. Well, worth a visit. You may need to book.

Kind, fast and overall great service paying a lot of attention. Awesome food, better than a lot of restaurants that may have looked better. Also beautiful Ambiente, in a nice little Italian street.
Overall an astonishing experience which was recommended to us by our hostess.

I was there last thursday for lunch with frieds from Roma who go there since ages (they are owner's friends) so I the only thing I can say it that this is a guarantee of eating top roman food once there. The trattoria is tiny just a bunch of tables inside and outside (there is a like a outside terrazza) it was of course packed. We had the carciofi alla giudia (fried artichokes) and fried vegetables and friedcod (baccala') typical jewish dishes. I was tempted to get the gnocchi or tonnarelli but I was so full from the fritti (fried) that we choose a cake instead, a lovely ricotta cheese chocolate cake to die for, with a Passito (sweet wine ) . Not to forget the Frascati's white bottle we had, supergood. I highly recommend a stop here when in Rome . La Matricianella is very close to the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi. Really in the heart of Roma. Thumbs up!!! lovely service also, smiling people and happiness all around. The food is amazing.

We booked for 1230, the owner was very kind to fit us in as this restaurant is always full.

We arrived on time and by 1245 we had ordered.

Despite we were one of the first tables to order, our starters arrived 45 minutes later...very slow. The antipasti were delicious, mozzarella in carrozza and fried artichokes.

Our pasta dishes arrived 20 mins later - excellent Amatriciana and Cacio e Pepe.

By 2.20 our mains hadn’t yet arrived, that’s 90 mins after ordering and I had to leave for the airport.

Far too slow. Pity as food was very good.

If you are non-Italian, you would do well to avoid this restaurant. Four of us dined there tonight and the message we received was that they much preferred it if we had not taken up a table.

The waiter comes to the table and says nothing - no greeting, no introduction, nothing - he just held his pad in hand as if we were wasting his time. If we delayed at all in any decision, instead of offering suggestions, he looked around the room as if we were an imposition. He never visited the table to see how our meal was and showed no intention at any time of waiting on us.

When he decided to clear things from the table he could have cared less whether he was brusque or rude. Never a "pardon" or a "prego" or a single word!

Bread, but no oil, white wine with no chilling bucket, pasta with no parmigiana cheese sprinkle, etc. What you typically would have expected to be provided, you had to specifically ask for and then wait for.

When we spoke to the manager of the restaurant about it, we understood where the waiter got his attitude.

There are innumerable outstanding restaurants in Rome, and in most of them you will be treated well. Not here...
