We stayed for 4 nights in a deluxe sea view room with a balcony and loved our room. The view was endlessly fascinating with a view across the surrounding hills and the Castillo Miramare, and watching all the vessels come and go. It was a large sized room and large marble bathroom and every aspect was extremely well designed. I had some reservations about booking a hotel right on the dock where the cruise ships come in as this if often a barren or drab part of a city, but this could not be further from the truth in this case. The location of the hotel is excellent; just a short walk to the main piazza, plenty of restaurants nearby, the tourist office just behind the hotel, and the dock to catch a boat to the Castillo Miramare is just across the road. The room is incredibly well sound proofed as you could not hear any noise from the road or dock unless you were sitting out on the balcony, and also no noise from neighbouring rooms. The hotel has a grand lobby and excellent service. The breakfast is served in a very nice restaurant, with plenty of savoury and sweet food options, and great organisation and service so that you were seated with a coffee quickly, and the platters kept replenished despite being very busy. The hotel is rated 4 stars but it is 5 stars in all aspects except for the lack of a pool. Trieste is a beautiful city and staying at the Savoia only enhanced a wonderful visit.

On the way to Tuscany we’ve stopped for one night in the Savoi.
Perfect choice, nice and clean rooms, perfect location, price and value is eqalized.
Will come back and will recommend to others.
Braekafast was my favourite by the way.

I stayed in this hotel for nearly a week at the beginning of June'18, I was on a business trip so found the central location of the hotel facing the bay very nice. I did have a very large room and it was kept very clean indeed. The lobby bar where I had an end of day drink most days with some nibbles prior to dinner was great and quite. The ceiling architecture in the lobby is stunning, real Italian style. Breakfast was also very good and the staff were very polite and helpful.
My only negative comment is that the hotel did not have a swimming pool, or even a sunbathing deck.

Room Tip: Ensure a room in the front of the hotel facing the water.

Great location and beautiful hotel but our main complaint was that the AC did not seem to be working and when someone came to check they were a little rude and wasn't helpful. so we stayed two nights without a properly functional AC. Breakfast was very good. Very disappointed with not having a swimming pool.

My wife and I just spent four marvelous days at the Savoia. The hotel staff were friendly and extremely professional. We had booked online into the Grand Hotel Duchi D'Aosta but when we got there, we were shocked at how shabby the place was and how brusque the staff were. After looking at a room, we decided not to stay in the place. It does not live up to the fantasy of a four star hotel promoted on their website. Nevertheless the hotel insisted in charging us 369 euro for one night. Classy to a fault.
When we got to the Savoia we were distraught but the people on the front desk could not be nicer. The lobby is impressive and spacious, a total contrast to the "Grand." The Savoia was booked on for one of the four nights of our planned stay in beautiful Trieste but they said they would do their best to accommodate us for the full stay, but could not guarantee it. In the meantime they offered us a beautiful suite for 250 euro per night. We booked it for two nights and kept our fingers crossed. In he meantime, everyone in the hotel, from the concierge to the bell captain, was professional and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. True to their word, they were able to accommodate us for the last two nights of our stay in a smaller (but not small) room with a balcony and an amazing view of the Adriatic. Both rooms were beautifully appointed.
So herein lies the difference between the Savoia and the Grand Hotel Duchi D'Aosta. One is dignified, the other not so much. While both are listed as four star hotels, one acts as if it is a five star while the other is a three star at best. We have nothing against 3 star hotels, we have stayed in some fine ones but we don't appreciate those that pretend they something that they are not.
Thank you Savoia for saving our vacation and treating us so well at your amazing establishment.

Room Tip: Adriatic views are preferable
