A wonderful menu, great service and something a little different. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here....we asked for a wine match menu and the the recommendations were great.

The ravioli stuffed with cod and the carbonara pasta with pike and seasonal veg were wonderful.....both 'taste sensations' that we swapped half way through.

I really enjoyed my suckling pig which I followed with zabaglione ( more an ice cream) and passion fruit sauce.

Great service from a waiter who spoke good English and had a dry sense of humour and who knew his wines! Good value too. Highly recommended.

Just up from the main piazza, built on a 13-14th century guard house, La Motta (the Kingfisher) offers fine dining and service of high quality. the posted menu offers "unusual" ( for Americans) dishes, such as ravioli with donkey meat. as well as more familiar dishes. Service is stellar (Aldo was an amazing server AND tour guide to the history of the building) and a great wine list, especially a Piemontese Chardonnay. With two floors and a patio, it would be hard to have an unpleasant seating. On two visits, the chicken liver pate was luxurious with butter, vastly different from its Tuscan (or Yiddish) counterparts. The vegetable flan was rich in a typical Piemontese style. The primi; tagliatelle with asparagus or mussels and pesto well constructed and balanced, and the suckling pig succulent. Insalate mista were well constructed and well beyond the greens and shredded carrots so ubiquitous else where. deserts were lovely. I doubt there is a better place to dine in O.s.G.

Just popped to this lovely restaurant for an evening meal. Probably the best food we have had in Italy. Menu is very different but prices are reasonable and quality is superb. Extensive wine list but again good quality local wines at reasonable prices. Staff very knowledgable on the food and wines from the local area and also the history of the town and the building which dates back to 800!! A must do if you are visiting Orta! We loved it

We had lunch and dinner here several times. It doesn't have a view of the lake but that is made up for by the beautiful foot street and the pleasant patio. We only dined on the patio and it never felt crowded or cramped. Good wine selections and fair prices.
