This is a lovely hotel, with super friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed 3 nights here, in a room with a balcony overlooking the lake, and ate at the restaurant each evening.
The location is perfect for visiting Lake Orta and Orta San Giulio. It is a bit of a walk into Orta, including a few minutes along the main road, but you can walk a most delightful circular route which the people at the hotel will explain about, and give you a map for. We didn’t need a rental car. We used a taxi to and from the hotel, and relied on foot power and ferries whilst staying here.
The hotel gets very busy with non residents. Parties, weddings, large groups etc. Be sure to book your dinner table ahead of schedule.
The staff work incredibly hard, and service didn’t suffer when they had huge groups for dinner two of our three evenings. I don’t know how they did it.
Breakfast is great, and the egg station a huge bonus.
I can’t give it 5 stars unfortunately, as my husband asked for his steak to be well done, and it arrived rare. He asked to have it cooked more. A replacement was given, and that , too, was rare, so that evening was hugely marred as he basically had no main course, as he couldn’t eat his steak, and I wouldn’t have been able to eat it either, tbh. Apparently they don’t cook meat to well done status in Italy ……… or so we were told, at a different venue.
Also, and I appreciate it can’t be helped, but we were only able to see the lake from the dinner table one of the three evenings, because of the large number of non residents being given the best restaurant areas. My tip would be: avoid the weekends.
Apart from the expensive steak debacle, the stay was reasonably good value for money, and I would return.
