This family owned hotel is exceptional! The location with a beautiful view of the lake is within walking distance to town and restaurants. So many great trails and walks to take and explore the area. The rooms are quite comfortable and the staff ks very helpful and friendly. I will stay again soon!

Let’s start with the Lake. Orta is the smallest, quietest, and in my view most charming of the Italian Lakes. There’s none of the intensity and buzz of Bellagio, Sirmione and Stresa - this is quiet and a place to relax.

The hotel is small to medium size and overlooks the lake. Some of the rooms have a lake view and it is worth upgrading for this. There’s parking and internet (the internet is a bit slow, but usable). The rooms are a good size and (for once) the shower was hot and powerful. For those that care, the TV gets BBC News.
The real strength of the hotel is the restaurant. It’s a family hotel run by Alberto & Valentina. He is the head Chef and genuinely cares about the quality of his food, which is excellent. The restaurant gets busy at weekends, mostly with Italians visiting from the nearby big cities. A restaurant full of Italians rather than foreign tourists is a good sign.

What did I like most apart from the food and the views? It’s all the people that work there. They take pride in what they do, care about your experience with them and are unfailingly cheerful despite the fact that they work hard to make it all happen.

This is a lovely hotel, with super friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed 3 nights here, in a room with a balcony overlooking the lake, and ate at the restaurant each evening.

The location is perfect for visiting Lake Orta and Orta San Giulio. It is a bit of a walk into Orta, including a few minutes along the main road, but you can walk a most delightful circular route which the people at the hotel will explain about, and give you a map for. We didn’t need a rental car. We used a taxi to and from the hotel, and relied on foot power and ferries whilst staying here.

The hotel gets very busy with non residents. Parties, weddings, large groups etc. Be sure to book your dinner table ahead of schedule.

The staff work incredibly hard, and service didn’t suffer when they had huge groups for dinner two of our three evenings. I don’t know how they did it.

Breakfast is great, and the egg station a huge bonus.

I can’t give it 5 stars unfortunately, as my husband asked for his steak to be well done, and it arrived rare. He asked to have it cooked more. A replacement was given, and that , too, was rare, so that evening was hugely marred as he basically had no main course, as he couldn’t eat his steak, and I wouldn’t have been able to eat it either, tbh. Apparently they don’t cook meat to well done status in Italy ……… or so we were told, at a different venue.

Also, and I appreciate it can’t be helped, but we were only able to see the lake from the dinner table one of the three evenings, because of the large number of non residents being given the best restaurant areas. My tip would be: avoid the weekends.

Apart from the expensive steak debacle, the stay was reasonably good value for money, and I would return.

Room tip: Avoid the weekends

A sweet family-run hotel that checks so many boxes. It’s updated, efficient and functional in room design. The entire staff is super friendly and kind. Breakfast is included in room rate and includes a made to order eggs station. For COVID times, most selections are wrapped in plastic wrap which is much appreciated. The coffee bar and barista is soooo nice. Location is great and the view is stellar. We did not eat dinner there so can’t speak to it but there were several parties going on and food looked great. Elevator works well, WiFi was perfect, most rooms have a lovely balcony, water for shower got nice and hot. The towels could be upgraded a bit as could the toiletries. The parking is free and the reception staff is great about making sure everyone is well taken care of. A +++

Stayed here for 4 nights on our tour of Italy. It is a fabulous hotel in an amazing place.
We had the jacuzzi suite - the view from the tub overlooking the lake was spectacular- an experience we will never forget !
Room was spacious , staff were attentive , friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant with views over the lake was fabulous- we usually like to eat at a variety of restaurants but ended up eating here every night.
