We were fortunate to arrive early, right at noon, since we got a lovely table right near the lakeside. Within half an hour, it was completely full, mainly with European tourists. Our rather frazzled but extremely nice waitress switched handily from English to French to German and handled the crowd gracefully and speedily. We had been told that the town of Orta San Giulio was far more crowded and touristy than Pella, where we were staying across the lake, and this outing and lunch certainly proved it. We mistakenly chose calzone instead of regular pizza, and they were puffy and golden brown when they arrived...looked very promising. But the large amount of anchovies in them made them terribly salty. We probably should have anticipated that, but were disappointed. The fabulous, monstrous ice cream desserts we had definitely made up for the less than delicious calzoni. Well worth a stop for lunch in a wonderful location. Just get there early to get a table with a good view...and order something other than calzone.
