Located on a narrow one way street about 300 metres from Basilica di Sant'Antonio da Padova, Hotel Al Santo is a small family run business. No staff that we encountered spoke English, but sign language and smiles do wonders, and the language barrier didn’t detract from the warmth of the welcome or efforts to be helpful. Our room was straight out of the 1970s, but it was clean, spacious, the bed comfortable and unlike many higher priced hotels in other cities, the a/c works great and so does the wifi.
Breakfast is plentiful, but didn’t really appeal to our Australian tastes. The cappuccino was very welcome though. The only one sticking point is the location of the parking, but in Padua, that’s likely to be an issue with most hotels. We were sent to an indoor parking garage about 750 metres away, where even though there was no English, service and security were just fine (12 Euro overnight). There is also a large outdoor parking lot about the same distance away on the other side of Prato della Valle, but I don’t know what this costs.
