For a budget hotel I was quite impressed with Casa Boccassini. It was a nice room with a comfy bed and a decent bathroom. We couldn't have asked for much more. It was very close to the canal. The area is great and less touristy than San Marco. You could also probably walk to San Marco in under a half an hour.

The ONLY negative was that the rooms had no proper curtains, just lace. This made any privacy almost impossible especially as neighbouring windows could see into our room. I would stay again if they got some curtains to add some privacy and keep out the morning sun.

I stayed at Hotel Casa Boccassini for one week during May 2015 in the small single room. The room itself was very basic containing just a bed wardrobe and a sink - but i knew it was a basic room so that was fine.

The hotel is located in quite a nice bit of Venice which off the main tourist path and is a short walk away from the north coast of the island which has some nice views. It is not too difficult to find once you get used to your way round. The courtyard area of the hotel is absolutely beautiful and is not something that you would expect to find within the tightly packed houses of Venice. Also there is a cat called Simba who is lovely to play with!

The staff were very nice and helpful and were very happy to help me with my italian speaking by talking clearly with me, in particular Lucca who also spoke very good english.

On the downside, there were a of of mosquitos in my room when i arrived, however I believe this to be a general problem with Venice rather than the hotel itself - just make sure the window is kept closed during the day. I tried to use my bedside lamp but when i turned it on the wire sparked and would most definitely have caught fire if i hadnt turned it straight off and unplugged. (i forgot to mention this when i left, sorry, so if someone from the hotel is reading this please check it out and get a new one). I feel the breakfast could have had a bit more variety to it.

All in all the hotel is an ideal place to stay if you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Venice if you are not going to spend all the holiday in your room - and let's be honest, with all the amazing things to do and see in Venice, this is most likely to be the case.

Boccassini is located by Fondamente Nove, western side of Venice, which provides easy access to/from airport by Vaporetto -boat (Blue line). There is maybe 300m by foot to the hotel from Vaporetto stop. Hotel is on a small alley and therefore its better to check location from map beforehand. Good side is that there are less tourists than on the main Train station-St.Mark Square -main drag. There are interesting alleys where there are locals and less sweating tourists. Prices are also lower, e.g. Fontamente Nove is a good place for prosecco and sunset.

Boccasini has small rooms which have good old furniture. Basic ones have communal shower and toilet. There is a lovely small garden downstairs. Wifi is free and functions well. Breakfast is usual Italian coffee and bisquits fare. Good place to stay for a short trip to Venice and trying to avoid masses.

We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in Venice. Close and easy from the Vapparetto stop. It is close to the local district,, where we took late night strolls without encountering a soul.
The staff was always helpful, and the downstairs courtyard was inviting,, and a good place to have coffee and wifi. Highly recommended.

We had a bit of trouble finding this place, even with the help of GPS. You have to go down many little alleys until you finally find it. It has a nice little courtyard, where you can access wifi. Breakfast was 5 extra euros I think, but we didn't get it so I can't comment on that. We stayed in a room with a sink in the room but shared bathroom down the hall. It was clean but we would have benefited from a paper towel dispenser, because if you forget to bring your hand towel, you will have wet hands or struggle to use some toilet tissue to dry your hands. There's a cat that seems to hang out there. It's not in a very touristy area. We came back after dinner and I didn't want to leave because I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get back in the dark because it was hard enough to find in daylight. There's not too much around the hotel, but a few minutes way away you will find the edge of the island so to speak, where there are a few shops and a water bus that goes to the airport, which we took for 15 euro each. You can bring your luggage on. You need to purchase a ticket from the booth which is over the bridge from the stop. Overall, we had a decent stay, we were only there for one night, so it worked for us.

Room Tip: Our room was directly above reception and because of that we seemed to get wifi sometimes, although patchy. They do tell you in order to get wifi you will have to be in reception or in the courtyard, but I think because of proximity, we sometimes could connect for a few minutes in our room.
