The Cathedral, is an ancient a Greek temple, that was in 2005 designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Known as the Temple of Athena, it was built in the 5th century BC. The present Cathedral, was constructed by Saint Bishop Zosimo of Siracusa in the 7th century. The Doric columns of the original temple were incorporated in the walls of the current church.

The Cathedral has a number of relics of St. Lucy, the Patroness of Siracusa - also, a number of bone fragments, a robe, a veil, and a pair of shoes.

The interior of the church, has a nave and two aisles, with combined rustic walls and Baroque details. There's a font with a marble basin dating from the 12th or 13th century - a statue of the Madonna della Neve ("Madonna of the Snow", 1512) by Antonello Gagini.

Each duomo in Italy must have a competition to outdo each other, this duomo in Siracusa just amazed us in it simple form unlike others that are too much for the eyes. The beauty is unstated which makes this church very peaceful both on the outside and inside the church. I wish we could have attended a mass while we were in Siracusa to just hear the sounds inside this church.

Nothing special regarding the duomo, if you are used to see Italy in general, and Rome in a special place.

This duomo is unique as it was built into an ancient greek temple, the original temple columns are visible both inside and outside the building and are well preserved, I have seen nothing else quite like it

This is a lovely church. When we visited I think there was supposed to be a small charge but no one took our money. Lots to see inside, one never tires of the artistic notes in European churches.
