This hotel should definitely be downgraded to a maximum of 4 stars. The rooms are very small and quite claustrophobic even with a balcony. The food is mediocre and price wise, an absolute joke. Breakfast consists of , fruit which is often not very good, cereals and cake, which is usually very dry. Of the cooked menu there are eggs, boiled, scrambled poached and fried , sometimes a thin and fatty bit of bacon (hopefully you won’t get egg bound)
On a positive note, the staff are splendid and very helpful, especially Maria who served us breakfast. I truly believe the staff deserve far better support from management.

Yes it is expensive but worth it.
We stopped for a break and a drink when walking around Taormina main street.
We had a good drink and service.
The views were excellent and relaxing.
Although we did not sleep there but we enjoyed the service and location .
If you have the money and do not need a space to park your car.. stay at this place
It is elegance with a view.
Recommended.

Went for dinner. It was terrible. Scallop and truffle rissoto had no scallops in it. Rice tasted like nothing. Truffles shaved on top were 20 euros extra. Fish soup was tinned tomato purée with some pieces of over cooked fish in it and one shrimp on top. No one ate the meal. Really bad

We have just spent four days at this fabulous hotel. What’s not to like?

Best views, superb room (we stayed in the junior suite deluxe). The shower is to die for - three different shower heads.

Fantastic drinks, even better cocktails, cool vibes and staff who only want to make sure your comfortable and looked after.

The pool and breakfast area is a delight and nothing is a problem including early morning airport transfers.

This was the place were we could unwind, relax, slip into one of the comfortable sofas and sip on great cocktails watching the sunset over the sea.

The hotel is right in the middle of town and daily walks made this hotel a joy to come home to.

Thank you so much to the Metropole team you made our visit a memorable one and we will certainly be back next year !!!

Highly recommended to anyone who wants a great hotel and team with views !!

We booked this hotel through a British Airways package. It is a small, beautiful luxurious 5* hotel with only 25 rooms. It is perched high on a cliff with magnificent views overlooking the bay of Naxos and Ionian Sea. The back of the hotel has terraces and an infinity swimming pool. The front of the hotel is in a brilliant location for exploring Taormina as it is on the main pedestrianised street.
We were allocated room 21 which has sea views but no balcony. (Later we saw some off the sea facing rooms had balconies you could sit out on and even private spa baths.) It was a beautiful suite set over two floors. It was all done in Italian marble with tasteful, restful cream décor. Downstairs there was a huge step over bath in a separate room and two armchairs. Up a steep flight of marble stairs there was the bedroom with another bathroom with toilet, bidet, sink and huge shower with three different settings. One was like being under a torrential waterfall! I found the stairs quite daunting. I do not have mobility problems but was extremely cautious of walking up and down as marble is slippery. There was, however, a substantial hand rail to hold onto. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well as the hotel is so quiet.
Housekeeping was efficient and all the staff were polite, courteous and friendly. We were glad we took our own travel kettle, tea, coffee and mugs as these were not provided.
Breakfast was included in our package and was served downstairs on one of the delightful patios. The patio had big blue awnings so you could eat outside without getting scorched by the Sicilian sun.
The breakfast spread was adequate. Nothing like you would see in a bigger hotel as they were catering for far fewer guests. There was cereal, yoghurts, fresh fruit, bread, pastries and cakes laid out and you could order cooked eggs and crispy bacon which the chef cooked outside to order. Other items could be ordered at an extra 15 euros. I would have liked to have seen cold meat and cheese as part of the inclusive spread.
We did not eat lunch or dinner in the hotel as starters from 28 euros seemed excessive when there were so many much more reasonably priced restaurants within a stone’s throw of the hotel.
We did have a night cap once or twice in the lounge in the evenings and these were extremely expensive.
We booked a private transfer from Catania Airport which is 45minutes form Taormina. Our driver was late as she couldn’t find a parking space which I was annoyed about as she should have factored that into her arrival time and we paid a lot for the private transfer. She was however charming and gave us lots of good advice about what to do during our week’s holiday. The hotel is situated on the main pedestrianised street of Taormina, which is a brilliant location but the down side is the taxi had to drop us at the back of the hotel on a very narrow one way street. The taxi driver phoned ahead so a porter met us and took us up to reception. The concierge was charming and extremely welcoming.
I would certainly recommend this hotel and Taormina is a lovely town. Our Lonely Planet travel guide said it is achingly expensive, which it certainly is. For us, for our annual week’s holiday we were happy to pay for special treatment at a beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting.
We booked a private transfer back to the airport which cost an extra 90 euros. It meant we were met in reception by a porter who took our luggage down the three floors to the hotel’s garage where the air conditioned limousine was waiting for us. Again with the only access being an extremely narrow, tortuous, one way street, vehicular access is an issue. Our driver spoke excellent English and was a charming companion for our return trip to the airport. A large blood red moon lit our return journey promising more wonderful weather for the next day. Arriverdeci Sicily!
My only complaint would be the timing of the British Airways flights. We landed at 10 pm on the outward journey and left Catania for the return journey at midnight returning to Gatwick at 02 00 meaning we did not get home until 04.00.
