One of the loveliest aspects of Taormina is the view over the sea and Mt. Etna. Villa Ducale is perfectly situated for this. We've never stayed in a hotel with such amazing views. The view from the restaurant was a constant delight.
We stayed in Suite no. 2 with our adult daughter, (who has special needs), from 2-6th March. The suite was spacious, comfortable and charmingly decorated. We had a balcony with table & chairs and a view down to the sea and across to mainland Italy, which we enjoyed. There was also a private sunny terrace with table & chairs to the front.
The breakfast was the best we've had in Italy and we enjoyed the complimentary Sicilian tapas in the evening before dinner. Dinner was good enough that we ate in the hotel all four nights. Our daughter's conservative tastes were catered for with no problem.
The staff were a brilliant team: They made us & our daughter very welcome: Nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is above Taormina, which can be reached by a 20-25 minute walk down steps, by the hotel's free shuttle bus or on the local buses which stop just by the hotel. A 5 minute walk brings you to the Saracen Castle and the little church of Madonna Rocca.
While we were there, many of the hotels in Taormina were closed until Easter, but Villa Ducale was well occupied with guests from all over the world: from the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, the US and China and Italians - it's always as good sign when a hotel is patronised by the home team!

Just returned from a perfect stay at Vlla Ducale. The location is stunning - above the main town of Taormina overloking the bay and Mount Etna. We were told there are 600+ steps down to the sea which we walked down (and up) several times during our week long stay. The hotel does offer a frequent free shuttle service down to the town which is better way of makng the trip when it is dark in the evenings.
Our room was beautiful, with a small outside terrace overlooking the bay. What really makes this a special place though is the staff, so welcoming and attentive without being intrusive - especially Santi on the front desk. We were made to feel as though we were the only guests they had ever cared for. We will be returning to this little gem!

From the first welcoming cocktail, you know this place is different. Yes it is beautiful and yes it sits high above the plain with a clear view of Mount Etna ... fantastic enough. But the sense of dedication and care that the staff offers is in another realm altogether. They envelope you in their world and you won't want to leave. The food prepared onsite is wonderful and imagine eating on a beautiful evening watching the lava flow from the volcano. You know you want to go ... do it now.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building with small patios are a good bet. But its all good.
