After having spent weeks researching hotels in Taormina, and reading all of the Trip Advisor comments for the many options, we decided to stay at the Hotel Villa Ducale from April 1-3, 2008 and were very impressed. All of the previous reviews were accurate, so it was a relief to walk in the front door and be greeted with some of the warmest hospitality we have ever received. Luca and Alessia were personable and sincere, and offered us a much needed welcome drink on the patio upon arrival. They answered all of our many questions with a smile, and continually ensured we were cared for.

The rooms were delightful, with amazing views of the sea and Mt. Etna, and each with its own unique sicilian style and charm. We weren't looking for a generic, large or modern accommodation, but rather searched for something with a fewer number of rooms and with its own special character that you can't find everyday. You'll feel like you're in old-world Sicily in a villa atop a mountain. Especially as you quietly sip a glass of wine at sunset overlooking the village below. Our group of four wished we could stay longer than our two nights!

The distance to the town is very manageable. We took the free hotel shuttle the first time, but walked both down and up several times, which takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on your agility. It does get tricky in the evening after dinner though, as the last shuttle back to the hotel is at 10:00pm, so the few times we finished dinner at 10:30pm we had to take a taxi back which cost about 15 euros.

All in all we had a wonderful time in this delightful hotel and we would definitely recommend it to friends.

My wife and I visited Ducale last week. She works in the hotel industry and we travel a great deal so we know what a good hotel is. We have always felt that a good hotel is like being at home - with different furniture. Villa Ducale is perfect if you like small, intimate places away from the noise of town. Breakfast good, light meals during the day excellent but they don't really do evening meals (although the staff will recommend and book an appropriate restaurant in town which the hotel shuttle will take you to). Attentive, good humoured and kind, the staff made the effort to provide us with maps, guides and ideas for our stay, all of which turned out to be good advice. Thanks to Antonio and Paolo, and the owners who drove up wife with headache tablets for my wife at the drop of a hat. Recommended without reservation!

We just returned from our trip to Sicily. We stayed two nights at the Villa Ducale in one of their junior suites. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly and courteous staff -Alessia, Luca and Paolo-. They escorted us on to the dining terrace which affords the guests a spectacular panoramic view of Mount Etna and the gorgeous landscape all the way to the sea. One can not conceive of a more breathtaking vista!!
Our room was well appointed with a quaint terrace overlooking Taormina below with its Greek theater and the Ionic sea. The bathroom was spacious and furnished with all the modern amenities. The Hotel has a small restaurant which provided light , tasty, and reasonably priced supper fares. It also provides free shuttle service to Taormina to where you can walk down in 10 minutes.
Definitely we highly recommend a stay at the Villa Ducale if you plan a trip to Taormina!!!!

Having read the previous reviews of this most delightful hotel with a fantastic location, we can only agree with all but one of your reviewers that our stay was a most wonderful experince. Our room was a compliment to Sicilian taste which together with the service and hospitality of a most helpful group of staff members will ensure our return in the not too distant future.

The Villa Ducale was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at during our two week trip to Italy. Perched above the wonderful town of Taormina, it has breathtaking views of Mt. Etna and the coastline. The terrace would be a wonderful place to sit in the warmer weather. The walk down to town, and especially back up, is steep, but we found a nice restaurant just up the road, so we did not have to do the walk again at night. And it is already part way up the hill to the tiny, charming village of Castelmola, which is well worth the steep climb.

The rooms at the Villa Ducale are beautiful, the bathrooms spacious. Alessia, who checked us in and helped with various enquiries, was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We were able to access the free wifi from our room. We were sorry that we had not scheduled more than one night here; we would happily have stayed for several.
