What a fantastic dining experience and far superior to many Michelin starred restaurants we have visited. The Bistrot can be found nestled in a side street off one of the main shopping streets between the Duomo and Uffizi. As soon as you see the Bistrot you can tell it is not the standard, dark Florence restaurant and unlike many Florence restaurants nobody is jumping out at you trying to put a menu in your hand. The decor and design is modern but with enough old world feel to appeal to tourists. We were greeted by super friendly staff who were immediately ready to offer water and chilled wine, as it was a very warm day. The menu is varied but not overwhelming. The staff is happy to answer questions and to make recommendations. We highly recommend the charcuterie and cheese for a starter. The Bistro has an amazing selection that you will not find in local shops. The pasta is freshly made and excellent. You cannot go wrong with the ravioli and pappardelle. The Bistrot's fish selection is also exquisite and cooked to perfection. Finally, be sure to end with the cheesecake. Besides the wonderful food we had the opportunity to speak with the co-owners at length. Both were very charming and you could see their passion for their food. We discussed food, wine and a little bit of football and the world in general. You may notice one of the co-owners arriving on his bike with two shorter, more hairy passengers on the back of the bike. We assumed they were either silent partners or the security team for the restaurant (see photo). They sit parked across the street waiting for their master while he makes fantastic pasta. They draw such a crowd that they should sit in front of the Bistrot to lure customers in. Overall it was a great experience and we cannot recommend Il Granaio Bistrot enough.
