We went to the Cantinetta twice in two different visit in Florence. Great food quality. We will go back and have the focaccia and cantucci. Goof service and very well located.

All the panino and sandwiches are fresh, the tomatoes, basil and mozzarella sandwich was delicious. The Verranzzano chianti with the sliced sausage sandwich was a great combo. You can get their Chianti back in Canada with any who imports wine.

Whilst wandering the streets in Florence we happened upon Cantinetta dei Verrazzano, tucked quietly down a little street from the bustling shopping nearby.

Initially we just fancied a drink but then decided to grab just a quick small snack. My wife went for the bruschetta pomodoro and I was tempted by a little €4 dish of focaccia, to go with our glass of wine. Our friendly waiter asked if we'd like the focaccia for 2 and pointed to a nearby wooden board of focaccia appetisers, so we said yes. The food - and wine - was delicious and enjoyable.

After paying the bill I realised that the focaccia (for 2) was €16, which was a bit unfair of the waiter - clearly too tempted to trap a couple of tourists into paying for more without telling me them how much more. This was initially a €4 dish we'd ordered but ended up paying 4 times as much. Such a shame as we felt a bit cheated after such tasty food.

So, head here for a quiet and lovely lunch - just be aware of the little tricks designed to make you part with more money than you expected. Light lunch with a glass of wine each, plus water, was €31.

The centre of Florence is becoming vastly overcrowded these days but there are a number of spots very close to the main thoroughfares (which seem now to be full of crocodiles from cruise-ship) where you can get a little peace and quiet (relatively speaking) and this is one such place. They serve good coffee and a wonderful selection of pastries and it became our regular place for a coffee break on a recent trip to Florence.

Great little place which doubles as a bakery with its own oven. Restaurant food and drinks are all produced by them. Top service and top authentic food. One of my favourites ever.
