FH Calzaiuoli Hotel

Reviewed 9 January 2017 via mobile

My husband and I met my parents and aunt in Florence in Thanksgiving 2016. We stayed 10 days at Hotel Calzaiuoli and used Florence as our hub to explore Tuscany and Rome. This hotel is on a mainly pedestrian street. Vehicles are permitted, but they are restricted. Its very nice to exit the hotel and be in the pedestrian bustle rather than dodging vehicular traffic. It also happens to be smack between the Duomo and Piazza de Signoria. We loved this central location for exploring Florence - you cant get any closer to everything. Its literally a 5 minute stroll to the major sights.

You may be concerned about street noise. The hotel has sound reducing windows, so if you are facing Via dei Calzaiuoli, they help block it out. We experienced some busy and loud weekends, but closing the windows really cut the noise to a minimum. If you are concerned, bring a white noise machine or ask for a room facing away from Via dei Calzaiuoli.

The inclusive breakfast was one of the most varied I've had in Europe. They served coffee, tea, juice, fruit, toast, eggs, ham, sausage, salmon, cheeses, yogurt, and an entire table dedicated to pastries. Even my steak-and-potatoes husband was pleased with the options. The wait staff in the breakfast room was very attentive and never let any item run empty. They even served cappuccinos to guests on request, which my father enjoyed daily.

Front desk staff were all wonderfully helpful and pleasant. We had luggage arrive late, my father required a doctor, and our homebound flight cancelled. Each time, the staff was there to assist in moments that could have been really stressful.

Notes for those with mobility issues: If you take a cab to/from the airport, it will pick up/drop off at the front door of the hotel. This hotel has 1 elevator, so don't expect it to arrive on your floor immediately. My father has knee problems and relied on the elevator instead of using the stairs. He had to wait for the elevator for a minute or so - especially on the weekends. Be patient, it will stop on your floor.

This is the second time we stay at the Calzaiuoli. The hotel has been recently renovated. Rooms are very well accommodated with large spaces and elegant decorations. The location could not be better, 5 min walking distance to everywhere. Highly recommended.

This hotel is centrally located for sightseeing and shopping. It is only a block from Duomo and a short walk to the river. There are many leather stalls and stores near the hotel for you to browse. It is a 10 minutes walk from the train station to the hotel. There are many places to eat outside of the hotel. The streets are well lighted.

The receptionists were pleasant. Oresto was especially very helpful in explaining and showing me on the map on how to get from one point of interest to the next.

The room was very comfortable, clean, quiet, and everything was in good working condition. Breakfast was served on the first floor. It was an open buffet style. There were fruits, salmon, pastries, cereal and others to chose from. I am very please with the services from this hotel.

We loved our stay at Hotel Calzaiuoli, right down to the charming oversized brass key to the room. This hotel is a gem. The room was so comfortable, beautifully appointed, spacious with a small entry way, impeccably clean and had a rather impressive large closet for luggage and bags. Bathroom was sparkling and newly renovated, with a large glass shower stall and plenty of counter space (a rareity in Europe). We were greeted by our names upon arrival and were well taken care of throughout our stay. The location is perfect. Central and accessible to everything by foot, which is the beauty of Florence in general. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

The Hotel Calzaiuoli couldn't be better located and is a great hotel for a few romantic days in Florence. Because it sits between Piazzas Della Repubblica and Signoria, it's an easy walk to many of the important sites but also some high end shopping.

We took a very short taxi ride from the train station but it was more like swimming than driving to maneuver through the crowds of people milling along the old, narrow streets. We made our way to Via Dei Calzaiuoli and arrived literally inches from a nondescript doorway. We were escorted to a small simple vestibule to check in. The staff was very friendly, and warmly insisted upon helping us with our bags.

The bellman opened up the door to our room and then the large window shutters that brought in the hum of the crowds walking below and the sound of distant bell towers above. The room was warm and lovely and well appointed with paneled walls, soft lighting and sharp white linens. The bathroom was also nicely designed, oversized by European standards, although the walk-in shower could have used a better door.

In the morning breakfast was served in a parlor room, which was a bit small but cozy. The meal was included with the room rate, and was typical of the Italian buffet served at many hotels with fruits and Italian meats & cheeses and eggs and breads.

I would definitely stay again at the Calzaiuoli Hotel given the opportunity. It was well located and luxurious without a lot of fuss. My only real complaint is that we couldn't stay longer!
