My family and I did not have a good experience at this hotel. Where to begin…

There is no childrens menu and the pool bar has a very limited menu. We ordered 1 pasta which took over 45 mins to arrive. Not great if you have hungry kids. They then added a cover charge for 3 people for 1 pasta.

Pool bar opened at 11:30 each day (late some days) but we were told the kitchen doesn’t open until 1 for food orders. Why? Again not great for kids if they are hungry.

Breakfast was meant to start at 8am but was late to open every day. It was also very basic and the eggs were almost inedible some days.

It was clear that this hotel was massively understaffed. Staff couldn’t handle a full hotel and some were very rude.

I spoke to the manager about our problems who didn’t seem to be sorry or care. I sent an email with our complaints on our final day and didn’t even get a response.

Unfortunately I would not stay at this hotel again. It is certainly not 5 star as it claims to be and I think most would expect a higher level of service for the price.

We had booked a luxury room at this hotel and wanted to enjoy a week in Tuscany not exactly in the middle of the town.

The hotel is actually nicely located but to find it was the first challenge, to get to it was the second. You have to pass two way streets where one car is almost too wide for them. After we put the official address, the navigation system took us through the worst of them. We got an email from the hotel with the description in longitude and latitude, but where it had been forgotten to write the letter (N or S, W or E). We were welcomed by a male receptionist quite full of himself, who told us we should have given the navigator Via Ugo Foscolo as the address to arrive in an easier fashion, but this is not at all the address of the hotel. I don’t understand why they don’t explain this to you in the confirmation email instead.

After getting to our room, which really is big and spacious, we found that there is no single TV-channel in another language than Italian. When asked, the same receptionist told us we were in Italy! I have visited many hotels in this country, and not supposedly five-stars, which didn’t have any problems in supplying tourists, who do not always speak Italian fluently, with some entertainment in other languages. I always thought hotels were supposed, among others, to serve tourists and foreigners!

The other days we had very nice ladies attending the reception. But the day before we left, the male receptionist was again there. I asked for the bill at the end of the afternoon and he looked very astonished saying this would not be possible before nine o’clock in the evening. (Five-star hotel!). This had never happened to me.

The breakfast room is really beautifully located with a marvelous view, but the breakfast choice has the level of a good 2-star hotel not more. For the price of the room one could await more. The service is good, but that’s it! It is served from 8 to 10 o’clock in the morning, which is quite a narrow window for such a hotel. On our last day at 8 o’clock, together with other guests we found the doors closed and nothing prepared, it took quite a long time to get things running, so that other guests who had to take a train, couldn’t get their coffee, which is brought to your table. There is no machine where you could help yourself. Also you have to ask separately for cold milk if you wish to eat your cereals with it.

In the spacious bathroom there is no magnifying mirror, also to be found in almost every 3-star-average hotel.

You could say that what you pay for is the location but certainly not a good service or an offer corresponding to high category hotel. We decided to shorten our stay.

This hotel is fabulous - beautiful rooms, great staff, wonderful views and stunning setting. It would have five stars except - the food in the restaurant was almost inedible. It looked great but tasted awful and the breast of duck was so tough as to be inedible; the risotto had no flavour and I could only eat three fork fulls. For a really special 5 star hotel this is a shame. The pool and the view from it is incredible. As is the view from the restaurant. Look at the views; look at the food - just don't eat it.

We apologies for the breast of duck and the risotto, which didn't match your taste.
However, we hope to see you again soon!

We really enjoyed our stay in Villa Tolomei. It is just out of town but gives a very different feeling as you are surrounded by olive trees and chirping birds. I even spotted a roe in the morning! Breakfast is good but not exceptional. Cakes are a nice touch but their taste is mediocre. The room we stayed in was in the main villa. Very spacious and comfortable. Given the price paid we thought it exceeded expectations. Staff is courteous and helpful. Given the location we would highly recommend this hotel! The pool was cold but magnificent places.......
