Abatjour B&B is a nice bed and breakfast in Florence. It is located next to a bus station that takes you straight to the city center and the railway station. I was impressed with the nice atmosphere and their staff. I recommend them for a budget trip in Florence.

Florence is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Italy and finding an inexpensive accommodation was not an easy task. The Abatjour B&B fit our budget and it was a great value for money.

It’s not located at the old city centre, perhaps a thirty minutes brisk walk away. There is a train station nearby though I don’t think it runs to the main attractions. We had a car and although there was no garage, parking was not an issue the few days we were there.

We had a quad-room (2 singles and a queen-sized) on the third floor. Clean and simply furnished, it served our purpose well. The breakfast consisted of bottled fruit juice, cakes, jam and crackers, more like a snack than anything else. An added bonus is a restaurant named Cipiglio nearby. It served pasta and pizza and it’s well-populated by the locals during the two nights we were there. I enjoyed the dinners we had. It’s quite decent and you get 10% discount as the guest of the B&B.

A couple of points to take note of. Abatjour is next to the rail-track and a morning rumbling train (not too frequent though) may wake you up earlier than you will like. Also, the grass around the train track must be fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes as we had a fair share of problem with them. Not a big issue though if you carry insect repellent (Abatjour does provide those oil repellent if you need them).

Room Tip: Choose the higher floor if you don't mind climbing stairs.

If you read my bad review of the Persefone Palace this is the place we found around the corner. The owner put another bed in the room for us. The room was very clean and the bathroom excellent. Breakfast was on a tray in the room with a kettle and a filter water jug. The hotel staff were very friendly, giving us a map of Florence and marking the bus routes and main sites.
The owner asked to meet us on the second day to welcome us; he was a doctor of economics and charm itself. I can recommend this hotel to anyone.

First time in Europe and first time at a bed and breakfast. Its a cute place...you feel like you are staying at someones house. Paolo, the owner was SUPER nice and very helpful. We rented bikes for the day from the hotel and it was the best way to get around. You are kind of out of the "busy" area but close enough. Walking distance from the train station.
