Owner description: It is called the Leaning Tower or the Tower of Pisa but actually it was never used for defending the city; it is part of the religious complex in the Duomo Square and acts as its bell tower. It played an active role in both human and divine timekeeping with its seven bells – one for each musical note – the largest of which, cast in 1655, weighs a full three and a half tonnes! It is known throughout the world for the beauty of its architecture, for its extraordinary tilt, which makes it an authentic miracle of statics, and for the fact that it stands in the universally renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, of which it is certainly the prize jewel. And this is why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

I think we have all seen the photos of this tower when we were in Primary School, so just being there to see it is an achievement in itself. We were lucky that we were there early in the morning as we could get photos without too much interference. As we were leaving the people were pouring in and we knew they would soon have the Pisa surrounded. Once the amazement of actually being there wore off and a few crazy photos were taken we quietly withdrew and took advantage to scout around the souvenir shops which had opened up nearby.

Never mind the crazy tilt on this tower, it Isabel truly unique and beautiful tower in its own right. Crazy mobs of tourists surround it which unfortunately detracts from the experience. Not exactly well sign posted, and if you try to reach it by car using GPS, beware! You may get stuck in a narrow alley!!

No travel to Italy is complete without a visit to the leaning Tower of Pisa.
There is no much more I can say about that hasn't been said before.
A major tourist attraction and for good reason, respect everyone space to take photo's.
The area is well protected by the military and police, no vendors are allowed 8n the complex, but a different story outside. A market is available to purchase all those tourist trap items at a negotiated price.

Just like the Eiffel Tower, Parliament/Big Ben and NYC Times Square, you have to go and see for yourself what brings all the tourists. Slow down and enjoy the moment and the history of this little wonder and get your picture of a lifetime. You can get into the Cathedral for free but everything else has a price tag; check the website and you can set up your reservations if you want to climb the tower. Entering the Piazza, one side entry you'll walk thru a knickknack market, buy from a local, and the other walking street has restaurants & souvenir shops. It's just a mile from the train station so if you're you doing a day trip, walk and go enjoy the city scape and see the small town while you're there, there are other things to explore. Recommendations: do your restaurant research for a good lunch or dinner since this is a big tourist town.
