So it was our last night of our trip to Italy. We covered Piemonte, Puglia and were finishing off our trip in Pisa. It's been 12 years since our last trip here (this time sans enfants). We did our obligatory visit to the Tower but mainly stayed near the Via Roma area. After 11 days of eating and drinking our way through the country, we decided to go simple ---couple of pizzas to finish off our journey. Our concierge at the Hotel Bologna (see my separate review) recommended Funicula. Just a short walk across the bridge from Via Roma, this eatery was just was the doctor ordered. It is very non-descript but as you walk in, the atmosphere is lively, convivial and perfect. They serve only pizzas and calzone. Wine list is decent. But the quality of the dough, the wood-burning oven and the toppings were excellent. The prices were super reasonable. Not much English spoken as the patrons were mostly locals and students. Don't go researching....take our word. If you have the yearning for a good simple pizza meal, go no further....Happy travels.
