Do not miss this even if, like me, you're not a big fan of religious art. The collection of Medieval altar paintings on wood is extensive and rich as the style of that area included abundant gold backgrounds. I personally love the more primitive two- dimensional style of this art, which continues this characteristic from the earlier Romanesque style.

This was an amazing experience for someone like me who enjoys art for its own sake and not because of a style or artist. We took forever to come to the end. The curators start you off on a particular staircase and you just follow your nose from one room to another and don't get lost or confused. Quite a different style to what we had encountered elsewhere. Reasonable entrance fee and not overcrowded so you can sit/stand and absorb the atmosphere at leisure

Most underrated museum I've ever been to. Off the beaten track, but sheer volume of 13-15th century paintings ('bizantian' style) is remarkable. Even Uffizi doesn't have this size of collection. Museum focuses on the gothic style, so relatively little renaissance paintings (for these Uffizi is the ultimate place). Building itself is a bit run down, but this actually adds to the experience - very down to earth. Really a pity there's no English descriptions / audioguide. Best €4 spent for a very long time.
