Trip advisor is such a great service that sometimes one hesitates at adding praises for a place, worrying this might mean a "hidden gem" will no longer be so hidden...
Well, in this case this place is so great that it's really worth mentioning.
Assisi is a beautiful town, and understandably packed with tourists, especially in the summer. Tourist abundance means there are lots of restaurants...and unfortunately all too often of average to poor quality.
But, here, it's quite the opposite. Opened four months ago, it's already reached 3rd place in the trip advisor rating and it's well deserved. Tucked away in a small street, it's a delightful little place with a small but excellent list of local dishes all made with fresh products. Even the bread is home made and baked...this is a small place and so it's really packed, but everything is done to have you seated.
With my wife we first shared a sample of Umbrian starters. All was superb, the she took a rack of lamb with roasted potatoes and I potato gnocchis with truffle - simple but again a delight. All was also beautifully served. We ended with a hazelnut mousse and a wild berries semi freddo. I also saw passing sea bass gratin, a red rice risotto and other wonderful dishes. Service was very nice despite being sometimes a bit overwhelmed by their own success. The staff has lived and worked abroad extensively so this explains the quality of dishes, service and they jus know being in a top tourist location won't suffice. Because of this, they also speak English, French and German so you're bound to get yourselves helped out. We did not go for wine as we had had a fairly heavy first week in Italy enjoying wine selections with the rest of our family, but the wine list looked at par with the rest.
Finally the bill was unbelievably cheap for the quality (61€ for 2) and I can only wish they maintain such quality and see their business expand !
