As part of the small and laxuary hotels we were disappointed!!!
The hotel itself,entrance-lobby-pool-sitting areas which were many all around , all was quite well designed and the front desk were very friendly and quick. But the rooms, we had two-and the halls were horrible, old, old carpets all around, badly smelling, tiny rooms-and so unexpected. Another disappointment was the breakfast- hardly any opposition,no vegetables at all, one warm plate with scrumbeld eggs which looked unwanted to be tried and no other choice, very poor selection of cheese, and at total didn't worth to be paid for.
The last bad experience were the many bees that were all around the pool area and the breakfast balcony area, that didn't give us peace and also at the end stinged one of our girls .
Maybe if it wasn't from that category of hotels and if we didn't know about other hotels from this category we would not expect nothing.

When we stayed here last September we knew we'd be back, though somewhat sooner than expected! This time we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. The bedroom was the same (comfortable bed, good linen powerful shower). The food was good at lunch and evening meal (which we ate outside) and the prices didn't seem too high compared with Gubbio centre. The staff were as attentive as ever and always prepared to go the extra mile for you (e.g. the barman made me a peach tea from scratch when he didn't have any pre-made...delicious!) with the exception of the breakfast staff (see gripe 1 below). The spa treatments were great and this time used the pool, which was large and good fun. And because of the heat we used the underground car park which kept the car nice and cool and there's direct access to the hotel.

However, not a 5 star review this time.

1) the attentive attitude did not extent to the staff waiting on at breakfast. Much of the time they ignored you (or tried to appear busy when there were so few guests). I had to insist on them preparing a cafe latte rather than drinking the filter coffee which they wanted me to have and they were very slow to replenish empty serving dishes.

2) there is constant awful "musak" played everywhere (even in the lift, and garage). One evening we were sitting outside and for once found some peace...but then the one CD was started again. Please change the music (or embrace the peace and quiet!)

This is an amazing hotel! Wonderful staff, beautiful accommodations and incredible food. We were traveling with 8 high school students and the staff made all of us feel very welcome. The hotel has an awesome collection of art and artifacts that are museum worthy and worth a walk through the hall ways to see them all. The restaurant has 5 star food and service. I would love to go back!

Room Tip: Any room on any floor is a good one.

This hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels...and that certainly "colored" my review. in no way would I call it luxurious!

At check in it was very hot outside (May 2017)...and not until we got to the room did we discover there is NO air conditioning!!! On this hotel's website...and on the slh.com website...the v ry FIRST items listed under description of the rooms is "air conditioning". After several calls we were told "by law they can not turn the air on until June 1st". Well...if that is true...say it on your website! The manger waited more than 24 hours to respond to my request to talk to her.

Also...the room is fine...but the furnishings look right out of the 70"s...black lacquer furniture.

Not impressed.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere...especially if the weather is warm and potentially not having air is a deal-breaker.

This is a beautiful hotel with lovely stone walls and landscaping. It is fully modernized and really warrants a five point rating. However the electronic controls of power, lighting, TVs etc. was really bad. Lights kept coming on and then off through the night. TVs suddenly turned on. It was pretty sad....too much techie stuff is not necessarily a good thing. That said, this hotel is truly lovely.
