My family and I stayed here on a 2-week odyssey through Switzerland and Austria. We traveled by train, so as previous reviewers have mentioned, the location directly across from the train station was VERY handy, especially with all our luggage. The hotel was nicely kept up and fairly modern in all appearances, although the rooms were on the smaller side (not unusual in Europe, of course). The staff was very helpful, and it was a quick, easy walk from all the attractions, shopping, etc. Definitely recommended.

This hotel has been refurbished since our previous stay some years ago. Our room (5th floor) was comfortable however could have done without steps in middle of room! Also this standard of hotel should provide a stocked minibar and sell alcohol.
Because of maintenance work were offered a room change and were able to negotiate an upgrade for our final night (good!). This gesture was somewhat spoiled by hotel staff unlocking & opening our room door at 0745 in morning without warning.
Breakfasts are good and location very central

Very handy hotel as mentioned in previous reviews, which is why we booked this hotel. It was very clean, nice room with kettle although the wife commented on choice not quality of chairs in the room, breakfast was good (didn’t have dinner so no comment) and nice staff, what more do you need - A/C in an ideal world but a floor fan helped so all in all a good experience.

Rick Steve's recommended this hotel since it's near the train station. Were we ever happy that he did! It was by far the best hotel (out of five) that we stayed in while in Switzerland. It's ultra- modern, spacious, convenient to most major attractions with a terrific staff and excellent restaurant. It was raining very hard so being near the train was wonderful. Due to the weather we ate in the restaurant and a had a wonderful meal (hard to find in Switzerland). As i was not feeling well, I returned to my room. Soon there was a knock on the door and there was our server with the delicious dessert I had ordered. Later my wife had to fax some business materials to the States and again the hotel handled that efficiently and at a reasonable cost. When we left, they called ahead to our next destination and arranged for a taxi to pick us up. It just doesn't get any better than that! And, Lucerne is arguably Switzerland's most charming city. We returned there a few days later on a bright sunny day to celebrate my birthday. It was my "best day" in Switzerland which had many magical moments.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the street, but there was minimal noise.

We had a great experience staying here. The hotel is right across from the train station and walking distance to the ferries, old town, bridges and shopping. Our room was very nice and clean. The lack of a/c was not a problem as it did cool off quite nicely each evening. Our room had a portable fan and it helped.

The desk staff was very helpful with recommendations and the map to get around. Breakfast was great each morning and the service in the restaurant was very good.

As far as value we feel the Waldstaetterhof was a great value for Lucerne. It is expensive to stay in Lucerne but you do get a great locale and nice room for a reasonable "swiss" rate.
