Very friendly atmosphere, we always love to go there, when we have to celebrate something.
Very recommendable: Lobster Soup, and of course the fabulous " Schnitzel "

Traditional swiss decor set in an old house. Slightly creepy if you get spooked out by being surrounded by all these antique stacked around you.

In terms of food, the first impression is terrible. The restaurant has a weird rule that you must order one main course per person and that you're not allowed to share - they wrote that down explicitly on the menu in a rather stingy and bizarre move. I'm an Asian woman with a relatively smaller appetite - so far I have had trouble finishing the normal European portions. I chose to order two appetisers instead since I'm not for wasting food. However, the waitress told me I am NOT ALLOWED to do so. I never expected a restaurant to not allow their patrons the freedom to choose what they want to eat and what they want to order. If they're that worried about the money they'll pocket at the end of the day, it's even more bewildering since it actually costed more when I ordered two appetisers instead of one main course. The last time I was forced to order a certain amount of food was when I was ordered cheap street noodles in Hong Kong which costed USD $3... Not a so-called famous restaurant where they charge you USD $38 for an appetiser.

So we ordered one main course each. No one managed to finish the main course - a lot of food was wasted. Not like the restaurant cared. We planned to order their crepe suzette for dessert but we were so stuffed it didn't make sense anymore.

Not to mention the service was lacking. No one offered to take our coats when we came in. This is a pretty basic service during winter.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience. It's a shame because the food itself wasn't bad but the rule of forcing people to order more food than they can finish is barbaric and stingy.

In times of fast food, modern copy cuisine and a some times incredible mix of undefinable dishes, it is a real blessing to once in a while find a place with a clearly defined concept.
The Old Swiss House in Lucerne is a true institution, existing since many years, owned by the Buholzer family. It needs curage, dedication and pride in once own doing, to last so many years and to believe in a concept.
Well, the Buholzer have over many years done exactly that. What a great expierince to be albe to travel into a world almost gone by.
We entered the restaurant at around six pm on the second X-Mas day, a day when most restaurants are closed. After visiting the Gurlitt exhibition in Berne and after a leisure drive to Lucerne we where given a warm welcome by the restaurants owner Hanny Buholzer and the manager Oliver Valio. The lovely, even do old decor of the place made us emediately feel comfortable. We where in for a memorable family dinner. The Irish smoked salmon, carved at the table by the maitre in very thin slices was delicately smoked in Switzerland by Curatly, a well known salmon producer. We then went for the famous escalope of veal prepared at the table. An incredible dish! A very thin slice of lean veal, breaded infront of your eyes and panfried in pure butter until crispy, served with thin noodles and bread crumbs and the friying butter. Aldo it sounds terribly fatening and heavy, it is only delicious and I dare say, not more caloric that many so often consumed fast food dishes of today. We thoutghly enjoyed our main cours and had space for crepe suzette for desert.
One other remarcable point to highlight is the wine list. It shows that the owners have since long been passioned about wine. There are wonderful discoveries to be made for Champagne and Bordeaux lovers. Exquisite old and young vintages at very affordable prizes.
We where very happy with ur family after X-Mas dinner but only recommend this restaurant to people with an open mind and the wish to be transported into a fairy land gone by.

After visiting the nearby "dying lion" tourist spot, we passed by Old Swiss House. Being attracted by its outlook, we have our lunch there. The waiters' service was efficient and the fish dishes we ordered were fine. Prices were reasonable. Nice to have typical Swiss food for lunch here.

The food was good and typically Swiss. The service was good and the ambiance was very Swiss. It seems impossible to get a bad meal in Switzerland as the people are very quality and service conscious. This is definitely a nice stop if you happen to be taking a drive and pass through Lucerne.
