There are quite a few great restaurants in Arosa but this one is a must visit. I went here to meet a friend, and was immediately greeted and ushered to her table. The set- up is cosy casual, with options for more or less privacy, as desired or space permitting. The concept works, and on a cold, wintry evening a place like this combines warmth, class and great food - without being pretentious.

I had a cut of tenderloin, thin sliced with vegetables, a very creative salad (great home made sauce!) and an excellent wine to go with it.

Staff was friendly. Only downer for me is the spreading fad of charging for water. The Swiss gastronomy scene recognized suddenly that their clientele had discovered tap water in Switzerland is better (and more environmentally friendly than the bottled sort), and that they were losing revenue to people asking for tap water. They started charging for the water by putting it in special containers, sometimes chilling it. The justification for the charge differs between supporting some "water project" in Africa, paying for the "cost" of cleaning the bottle, etc. I usually respond by saying they have a choice between receiving my customary tip and not paying for the water, or no tip and my paying.

In the case of Bullrian they have imported this unpleasant practice of charging from Zurich. I saw it on the bill, but forgave them for it for the superb service I received. A sign how good the restaurant was... I'm usually not so forgiving. I rate the restaurant 5 star.

Dear MaverX,

Thank you for your excellent rating, we absolutely love what and how you wrote it!
Such a statement is very motivating for all of us!

Arosa has indeed the best tap water of the world (our opinion;-) ) and the whole discussion about charging for it in a restaurant is a very difficult one.
Of course its about revenue, yes there are cost of cleaning the bottle etc... but in the end the only way how a restaurant can really justify charging for water, is by delivering a superb service.Thats the core value of a restaurant, delivering a service, creating an experience together with the guests.
Food, drinks, water, infrastructure, etc... all is essential and has a value in itself, but the true value we create and live from is in the service combining all puzzle pieces together creating a wonderful evening.

That is exactly why we love your statement so much!

It is our goal each day to deliver to our guests an experience like yours; some days it works better than other days, thats our challenge and dedication we gratefully accept.

Thank you!

Looking all so forward to next time!

The restaurant offers a set menu of 6 high quality tapas and a main course. The tapas were excellent.
For main dish we ordered 3 entrecôte and one lobster. The entrecôte was excellent, the lobster was the weakest part in the meal

Excellent food that would easily fit into the scene in Zurich, Paris or London. Joel, Mela and the rest of the team have created a little gem here. Modern and creative food served in a relaxing and engaging setting. The starters, the steak, the lobster... it is impossible to pick a favorite. Not cheap, but prices fully in-line with other top restaurants in Arosa.

Bullrian was a breath of fresh air among all the other traditional (often overpriced) Swiss restaurants in Arosa. Expect friendly attentive staff, informal cosy atmosphere, plenty of delicious, thoughtful, unpretentious food to share and a night to remember!
The menu was unconventional - they used the concept of 'food tour', starting with a selection of tapas to share as starters which were changed weekly depending on the available fresh ingredients. Then it was followed by a choice of 2 different types of Argentinian steak - cooked perfectly medium rare in butter, rosemary, garlic and other herbs. The meal was concluded with a choice of 'surprise' dessert or cheese platter. We had some perfectly set panna cotta served with raspberry compote and cassis ice cream. The cheese platter was equally delicious - showing a range of cheese from local region.
Bullrian will definitely be our first stop for dinner next time we are back in Arosa!
