This is an East Asian food restaurant run by a Chinese family, who took over in March 2016 and kept the original Japanese name and decor. While they are at their best in making authentic Cantonese food, they do also serve Japanese food. We had the Sunday's Cantonese buffet where the lamb and the beef were outstandingly tasty and the other dishes were as if in Hong Kong. The service was excellent, clearly the new team wanted to make a good first impression. Our buffet meals were CHF 22 for adults, which was a good deal. Perhaps the main improvement area is that the buffet had no dessert, however a buffet in Hong Kong wouldn't have this either. All in all, a pleasant surprise.

Whilst the sushi was fresh and good, it was more expensive than other local restaurants. The rest of the menu was not extensive and the food ordered was really disappointing. We asked for some vegetable tempura and ended up with a bowl of soggy vegetables. It was an expensive and forgettable meal. The service was slow even though the restaurant was practically empty. There are better places to eat.

At a first glance the atmosphere of the restaurant is not very Japanese, but the welcome is very warm. Quite weird, the waitress didn't speak french, which was a huge problem for my Swiss friend :). Nevertheless, the food was at a very high level: while we were enjoying our entrée (try the fried tofu!), we could see the chef preparing thenagiris and uramakis we had ordered... So fascinating! And so tasty! As every japanese restaurant, you expect it to be more expensive than usual, but it's worthy.

I've tried all the Japanese restaurants in Lausanne and Geneva, and in my opinion, this one is the best (with Nagomi in Geneva a close second). The service is great, the food is always excellent (my unagi with foie gras and snap peas was out of this world). It's a shame the decor is still that of a middle of the range pizzeria, but I would rather they pour the money into their food then the decorations.

Kazoku still is among the best Japanese restaurants in town. Fish is always fresh, dishes are creatively and beautifully presented. Apart from classic house specials, the talented chefs propose seasonal menus (we come back very often and always find something new), this time- uramaki Caprese with mozarella, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto. at 20 fr, uramaki "fruits de mer" at 2 fr, uramaki "Philly" with philadelphia cheese, smoked salmon and capes at 24 fr or uramaki "Périgord" with foie gras at 28 fr. All dishes are minute maid don't come if you are in a rush. It's definitely worth supporting this young and creative team!
