Tralala Hotel Montreux
Ranked #5 of 17 Hotels in Montreux
Reviewed 24 February 2009

We stayed at the Tralala for 1 night in February as part of a short break, after 2 nights over the border in Annecy, France. We found the hotel in the steep back streets of Montreux fairly easily, following the helpful brown "Tralala Hotel" signs from the main road, after a visit to the beautiful Chateau de Chillon. On arrival we were offered complementary drinks which was a nice touch.
Parking was a bit of an issue - especially as when we were there, the streets were piled with snow, so it was hard to find clear spaces on the streets! Therefore we opted for the Tralala's own allocated parking space behind the hotel, but this set us back 15CHF for the night, so not cheap!
Our "Small and Sexy" room (304) was just that - comfortable, trendy and very tight around the bed, with no space for storage! A few coathangers were suspended above a long shelf which spanned the whole width of one end of the room under the window, which could be hidden behind a floor to ceiling curtain. Original but not very practical. Ok for a night or two if you don't mind living out of a suitcase! Bathroom was modern with toiletries provided and hairdryer, but again small with little shelf space.
The hotel decor was modern and funky - black and white design in the corridors etc with musically themed design and pictures. Trendy bucket chairs in the foyer looked inviting but we were worried we wouldn't get out of them again after our skiiing exertions!
Breakfast was served on the ground floor with a small buffet selection of ham, cheese, boiled eggs, bread and croissants, along with juice and hot drinks.
By reception was a PC where you could surf the internet for free - very handy for checkiing emails, train times etc when away - why can't all hotels offer this service!
We found a lovely little cellar restaurant just 5mins walk away - Le Museum in Rue de la Gare - highly recommended for their Swiss speciality dishes - see our separate restaurant review.
Overall a quirky good value option when visiting chic Montreux.

We were given a lovely welcome. The staff could't do enough for us. We stayed for four nights .
The hotel is modern , very clean and comfortable . There is a bar area and Wifi facilities.
Our room was on the 4th floor ( there is a lift) and was warm and spacious with a lovely big bathroom lots of hot water. Towels changed every day. Comfy beds and good buffet breakfast.

The hotel is located in the old town on the hillside above Montreux
The number 6 bus stops outside the hotel but does not run late at night .
You can walk down to the promenade via the station in 10-15 minutes.
The hotel will give you a Riviera card to use on local buses.

My husband and I stayed here for one night while doing a little sightseeing in Montreux. This hotel was very modern and fun. A music theme to it. The room was clean and simple. It had a fridge and safe. We even had a small balcony that allowed us to peek at the lake and mountains. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was fine too. I loved the shower. The breakfast is included in the price and was plentiful. Our only negative comment about the place is the lack of parking. You can reserve one of two spots reserved for the hotel. Otherwise, you have to pay hourly for parking which can be a pain. The hotel is located in the old section of Montreux which is up the hill from the lake. A very pretty section to stroll around. It's about a 10 min. walk from the lake. They hotel provides you with a transportation card which we used when we were too tired to hike the hill. The service was fine. I would stay here again if and when I return to Montreux.

I was happy to know this hotel in the Montreux old city. It's an old building but completely refurnished. Nice and new linens, towels, etc. Great shower. Above average breakfast. Good cost - benefit.

Came in by train and walked to tourist information. This place was in our price range and didn't look too far from the train station.
Our map was not the best, and we found we walked about a quarter a mile, all up hill, pulling our luggage.
This is a quirkly little hotel, dedicated to music, thus the name.
It was a bit odd, looking and the life size photo of Carlos Santana playing his guitar gazing at me while I tried to sleep.
At first the location seemed too far off the beaten track. We soon found bus service dropped off at our front door and we were located in the middle of the old town.
Many fine local restaurants are available and the locals seem interested in helping you find your way around and sitting for a visit.
We found an excellent dinner spot close by.
The rooms were of good enough size with a good bathroom.
We only stayed one night, and would probably stay longer as Montreux has much to offer.
Though we laughed and had a good time here. It might me simpler to stay closer to the lake, where the walking is more flat.
If you are looking for a different experience, I think you would like the hotel and area. If you have trouble walking and want a central llocation, this is probably not your place.
