This hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly gay males except for the female housekeeper. For gay travelers it is in a great location - Kerkstraat is fairly gay and it is not a long walk to the Reguliersdwars area. It's more of a trek to the train station, but I walked it. The price is reasonable for this expensive city. One drawback is that it does not have air conditioning. Now it does not get unbearably hot in Amsterdam but I was there for a week and for a few days it was actually hot and the room was a bit uncomfortable due to the heat. Also, there are no amenities like a fitness center but it does not claim to be a five star hotel.
I would stay there again and recommend it.

Sorry for the delay but I stayed for two weeks in 2008 and stayed in the penthouse which was wonderful and worth every cent. The owners, the boys, were great and very helpful during this two week stay. The apartment was just beautiful and met all my expectations. I loved buy my food from local shops and stores and then cooking it. THe gay scene was just terrific. This hotel was in the middle of very things to see in Amsterdam. The bars, tubs, smoking coffeeshops, and other things are within walking distance of the apartment. On the first floor of the penthouse is a wonderful bakery that was just "Dutch" in tastes and character.

We have been to amsterdam many times before and always ended up in staying in the big hotel chains, like eden hotel and golden tullip. This hotel was a first one to us and boy did it was a good one!

It started immedialty from the beginning and it lasted to the very end. From the very friendly and cute front desk guy to the cleaners and the managers. Nothing was too much to be asked. Breakfast is served till late so perfect for the late night birds. The Hotel is clean and the rooms are good. We stayed in the lovely double ensuite room wich had is very cute own shower and toilet.

The hotel is located perfectly to all the major attractions of amsterdam and in the middle of a lot of gay action, discover it yourself!
I definatly coming back and want to thank joost, mike and dennis for their hospitality.

The guy from brussel.

The Amistad was home for us for 9 nights, and we enjoyed staying there immensely. The staff (Danny, Mike, Elioje) are all terrific. We met very interesting and fun fellow travelers at the communal, welcoming breakfast each day (which is served until 1 p.m.). The rooms were not huge but totally adequate. Each one came with its own PC and flat-screen TV! The hotel is located many gay venues (bars, nightclub, restaurants) and is quiet at night. We will definitely go back when in Amsterdam.
