Haarlem Railway Station

Simply put, this is a railway station. It's nice and efficient for getting somewhere by rail, but not worth a separate visit otherwise.

Apart from being well organised the unexpected surprise of this station were the wonderfully photogenic original ceramics on its platforms - outside the waiting rooms and other station offices showing the pride of Dutch railwaymen in their profession.

Without a doubt one of Holland's prettiest train stations, along with the one in Amsterdam. Many original aspects and features have been lovingly preserved and maintained. Worth buying a ticket just to walk around inside.

This station is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau. Not for nothing "played" in the movie "Ocean's Twelve". Going slowly on the platforms and transitions, looking into the waiting rooms is a great pleasure. Do not miss!!!

The Haarlem Railway Station is located just north of downtown Haarlem and the Grote Markt and was built between 1906 and 1908. This station has really interesting architecture and is the only train station in the Netherlands that was built in the Art Nouveau style. The Amsterdam to Haarlem line was the first train track built in the Netherlands so this is its oldest line.

I visited this train station with my wife on a Friday in late May and enjoyed looking at the interesting architecture on both the inside and outside of it. Make sure you take the time to look at the front of the building as you arrive and also look at the inside of the station while you are waiting for your train (the part of the building next to the train tracks). This station was used in the Ocean 12 movie and they pretended it was the Amsterdam train station (I am going to watch the movie again and look for it).

Overall I enjoyed looking at the Haarlem Train Station and recommend that you take the time to look at both the inside and outside of it. This is not a must see attraction in Haarlem but a lot of visitors arrive by train and have to walk through it when arriving and departing.
