Very nice place, well communicated with centre of Amsterdam. Travel by bus from Amsterdam Central Station took us 45 minutes. On the place you can see good renovated Dutch village, very green and pleasant area.

Somehow, I had it in my mind to go here since I was a child. When we had about 20 hours to kill in Amsterdam, we went around the city during the day including the Rijks Museum, the Amsterdam Centraal and some small streets along the way. We walked a lot. We were contemplating taking a bus/train/walk combination to go see this place and it was already 8PM. We wouldn't have tbeen able to go and see this place and spend quality time.

Then outside the Amsterdam Centraal, I saw a line of taxis and negotiated with the first guy in the line, his name was Jordi. He quoted Euro 150 to take us there and drop us back at the Marriott by the airport and spend about one hour there. We never once regretted it. He eventually came at 100.

Ideal time to go is near sun down. We walked around the village and saw several windmills in all their glory, very well maintained. The area was exceptionally clean. Took some pictures to our heart's content. Some are posted herewith.

I understand most people like to see the big ticket items only, but this one is a total must.

There has been a lot said in the windmills of Holland. I can personally say that it is awesome. However, it is not only the windmills that are great to see but the surrounding places around it. It is a must to tour this place when visiting Netherlands. There are many photo ops in Zaanse Schans. See for yourself.

So easy to take the train from Centraa Station, this charming historical village is a great day out. We were there right after Christmas, and even then it was bustling with other tourists. The shops were almost too full to even shop in. But, the view and exploring the windmills are worth it. Lots of great photo ops and you can learn how to make clogs!

Great place to visit, i have been often, you can go with the bus from Centraal station straight there and it is not expensive, or you can also go with the train from Centraal Station from platform 7A it tells you when to get off and it is about €7,50 a return, you can spend a nice afternoon at the Zaanse schans and take your time there is zo much to see and take part in, if you go with one of these Tours &Tickets offices it is very expensive about €60 of course they go on to some other villages later, but still it is very expensive and if you go to the zaanse schaans yourself you have time to see more and you can stay there about 4 hours theres also a couple of nice cafes in there, and there is a nice resturant with terrace that has everything,
it is free to get into the zaanse schaans,
the zaanse schaans is a model village telling you about how it was to live in the zaanse area in the old days, you see clog makersv and cheese makers and lots of different things. Enjoy :-)
