We stayed at Mary K's excellent hotel as part of a tandem bicycle tour of the Netherlands. Her greeting could not have been warmer and, after helping us to park our tandem in the courtyard at the back, Mary provided extremely helpful information about the hotel and the city.

The room was excellent and delightfully decorated. We had absolutely everything we needed and found it most restful.

Later, Mary helped us to locate an excellent Indonesian restaurant, Spekuk, where we had a most enjoyable meal.

We strongly recommend this wonderful hotel!

i liked the location of this hotel. the hotel was clean. the staff was helpful and friendly. those are all good things. but i felt like the hotel should have included breakfast as a standard amenity/ we had to pay for the breakfast at this boutique hotel, and we even had to choose what we were going to order from the menu in advance, to avoid waste. for the hospitality industry, this seemed a little inhospitable.

Thank you for your feedback. Our hotel doesn't include breakfast because of two reasons: 1. A lot of guests don´t have breakfast and 2. We have several different breakfast options. It is quite different than an all in hotel, but we do see your point. We hope we may welcome you back an other time.

Great location, individual styling, lovely staff, what more could you want from a small hotel? Spotless rooms, comfortable beds and walk in showers - all to be found here. The location is great, quiet yet close to the old town and an easy walk from the Central Station. The hotel overlooks the canal and is close to bars and restaurants. As previously mentioned the only negative point is the very steep staircase to the first and second floor rooms. Don't worry about your luggage as this will be carried for you. We loved this place and would definitely stay here if we return to Utrecht.

Considering how close this small hotel is to the centre of Utrecht it was remarkably peaceful. We had two rooms, one on the ground floor, and one upstairs – Sweet Dreams if memory serves. Both were very clean, bright and spacious with lovely comfy beds and their own outdoor space with table and chairs. The rooms are all different, and the decoration can be quirky – we had a painting of ‘nanny’ on our wall, and her expression was definitely slightly manic, I was quite glad that she wasn’t able to watch me sleeping! There was a well-stocked, reasonably priced mini bar, and tea and coffee, cupboard space, but no wardrobe, and lovely toiletries provided in the bathroom. The downstairs room has a wet room style shower, but we were provided with a giant squidgy to mop up water which worked wonderfully. If you wanted breakfast you could order the evening before, and we had huge bowls of yoghurt, honey, muesli and fresh fruit for just a few euros. The key to your room also opens the front door, which suited us as we were there for a football match which was on til late.
A huge bonus of this hotel is the staff. They go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, and can give lots of advice on places to visit and to eat locally. They contacted us to find out when we would be likely to arrive, as there is not a reception manned at all times, though they are only a phone call away, and were very accommodating for anyone wanting to arrive early or late.
We would like to have given this hotel a 5 rating, but there are two main drawbacks which made us hesitate. The first is that there is no lift, and the second that there is no car parking. You may be lucky on the surrounding streets, but the nearest carpark – although not far – 6 or 7 minutes’ walk away is relatively expensive, and far enough away that carrying luggage could be a nuisance if you are not fit and healthy. As it was, unfortunately, we were only there for one night.
If you are looking for a standard hotel, with 24 hour room service, lots of facilities, bars, lounges etc. this is not the place for you. However if you want a haven of peace and comfort in the centre of a lovely city book with confidence.

Thank you very much for your lovely review! We appreciate it a lot.
Next time we can arrange a room on the ground floor if that is more convenient for you!

The location is perfect: on the Oudegracht (old canal), but not on the loudest part. The best part is the staff, but the ambience is perfect in other ways as well. It is arty, small, with delicious breakfasts. Utrecht itself is a lovely place to visit: small and manageable, not overwhelmed with tourists.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Mary K Hotel is a green deluxe art-hotel situated in a 18th century canal house on the well known 'Oudegracht' in downtown Utrecht. She accommodates nine rooms of various sizes and themes. We divided them in Cosy Small, Comfortable Medium and Large Deluxe. But every single one of them is totally different. For example "the Bedstead", where you can eat, sleep, read or watch television while watching the boats pass by. 'The Greenhouse", where you can rest yourself in a retro relaxed atmosphere with a sliding door towards the garden. And 'the Royal Rooftop" a suite with a beautiful canal view. Especially at night when the light come out. The whole interior of the Mary K Hotel was designed together with Utrecht based artists. Although Mary K offers you the comforts of a luxury hotel, we aim for the atmosphere to be laid-back, friendly and personal. We can safely say that we are one of the greenest hotels in Utrecht. During the development and renovation process, we have sourced our materials carefully. And now that we are up and running we do everything we can to work as environmentally friendly as possible. Just because we think that this is the only right way to run our business. ... more   less
