Description: Food that carries you away, challenges and inspires. Always evoking curiosity as to what the next course will be. Food that re-awakens those long-forgotten memories, or creates new, unforgettable experiences. Food you experience together, discuss together, which connects you to others. The power of simple and pure, and with a deep respect for preparation and flavours. Always the unexpected surprise of the combinations, which are often created at the table itself. The art of omission, the greatest challenge of all. No-nonsense, perfect service, precisely as you would expect here.

My wife and I enjoyed dinner on February 2, 2018. The service was impeccable, not over the top, not casual, just right. The food was a delight and the chef, François Geurds, is a very friendly and committed host. Highly recommended!

We visited FG restaurant on a Saturday evening a week ago. I would have to say the overall experience was frustrating and disappointing. We chose the 5 course menu and like other dinners experienced the strange disjointed offering of bespoke knives and selection of salt and pepper. The knives never used as the kitchen chooses to serve spoonable dishes or bite size pieces accessible with a fork of everything including steak.

The connection to the pepper and salts was never made. Although interesting to taste and smell these common seasonings we were never told what was in what dish or how we could use the connections they had us grind at the table. When I asked the chef why he choose to offer us this "opportunity" and all he could offer was we would know what they used in the kitchen.

The service was poor in comparison to most restaurants we dine at in Amsterdam. 5 + hours to eat a 5 course menu is quite unacceptable. The wine pairing came slowly making it painful to wait for the slow food service. At least placate your guests will additional wine if your kitchen has bad timing!

Also of note is that our table of 4 was out of wine and the wine steward appeared and poured the men another serving and let the ladies glasses empty. How offensive!

Overall the lack of service outweighed any magic the kitchen was offering. Chef you need to reengineer the front the house.

At the end of the evening we declined coffee and asked for the bill. This seemed to throw them off so they continued to stubbornly serve their sweet selection which ensured we missed our train (well past midnight at this point).

FG never again.

This is one of the few succesful gastronomic experients we have enjoyed. Even the chemical flavour induced decor and the totally unusual presentation of langoustine and Anjou pigeon were surprising hits. Worth the effort and the money for a special occasion.

The food at FG is amazing - it’s a (deserving) two Michelin Star restaurant, so I suppose that’s hardly surprising. The chef is always experimenting and he specializes in molecular cooking, so the dishes you will try are quite complex.

Even the 6-course menu has a bunch of appetizers and in-between courses so you’re going to be in for a while - we were there from 6.30pm until 11:30pm...

It’s not a place for a cosy dinner, it really is to experience the two-star service and dishes. Keep that in mind and you should have a great time.

We ate here in Restaurant Week and found the food as you would expect in a restaurant with two stars. However I completely agree with the review a week ago by another diner who said that being presented with a pepper menu, a salt menu and a choice of knives (with no explanation) added no value - it was over the top, pretentious, fussy and unnecessary. Added to that our table was on the way to the kitchen and every time the staff walked behind my chair they knocked it, and as the chairs are swivel chairs, I felt it every time. On looking around we think there are probably only two tables at most where you wouldn't have the same problem because of the large chairs and lack of space between the tables.
Most of the serving staff were totally unengaged and looked completely disinterested when they were serving us and one guy even looked (and sounded) completely bored.
In a simple brasserie I wouldn't mind, but in a restaurant with two stars they have to try harder than that. We have never experienced such poor service or such a poor table in a Michelin two-star restaurant and couldn't recommend.
