Great stay in the center of Ghent. Station Ghent Dampoort isn't far from the hotel. The staff is friendly. The rooms are clean and big. Large bathroom. Breakfast is good and large. The hotel isn't far from the capitole.
- Free Wifi
The room was clean. Staff are smiley, polite and really kind and help the people. The hotel is in historical district of Gent and you can visit many of historical buildings without any trouble. The rail transportation and shopping center are close to the hotel and the around is not busy. You can buy chocolate and waffles and enjoy your stay there.
This Ibis is right opposite St Bases Cathedral, and so is within easy walking distance of all the places you would want to see in the city. It is also a couple of minutes from the tram stop to/from the station.
It is a fairly typical Ibis, but the welcome at reception was wonderful - well above average. Our room was large, with the usual amenities and the bathroom had loads of hot water. Large screen TV which even had BBC 1 & 2. We didn't have breakfast as it was €15 but went next door and had a brilliant waffle and coffee.
The bar was good, and the menu there was very competively priced.
The hotel is undergoing some refurbishment at the moment and so we were given earplugs in case we needed them- but we didn't.
I'm not a big fan of Ibis and feel that they are currently Jekyll and Hyde! they have invested in their downstairs/reception area, bar area and feels like a complete re-brand and modern and yet you go upstairs to rooms out the 1970's. I have also stayed in the other Ibis (Opera), as often in Ghent on business. This room was a bit better, larger bedroom, definitely larger bathroom than the Opera Ibis. I would say though they are clean but we had to pay 100 euro's for 1 night due to the light festival being on so quite expensive for an Ibis. I would say good location and slept well, not woken by the Cathedral bells opposite!
The lobby is nice and the bar is quite modern and clean. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the lady in the bar (she spoke Spanish). We were told there were works going on so we were given earplugs and some chocolate bolts as an apology, however we never heard the noise once.
The location is perfect, right in the middle of the beautiful town.
The rooms are less good - the bed is amazingly comfortable but the rooms are small and dated - I hate the wood chip wallpaper (Ibis budget have this too), it just feels a little overpriced for the quality. The toilet is also in a tiny space behind the door- it's very tight and almost against the wall! We had an interconnecting room (we kept it locked at all times as we didn't travel with anyone else) however we could still hear the shower running next door - the walls are very very thin... we didn't feel we could put the TV on as it would be heard next door. Also, a small bottle of water is E1,50 at reception which feels far too much.
In all, the room is in a good location and the staff are excellent, we were able to keep our luggage there for a few hours after checkout, however the rooms are in need of an upgrade. It doesn't quite live up to expectations of quality v price.
